Reading comprehension is difficult for a lot of people. I.e., this line:

"The clause required people to do 1,000 hours of menial labor in exchange for their ‘free labor’."

should have said "The clause required people to do 1,000 hours of menial labor in exchange for their ‘free labor wifi’."

Yeah, I saw that and just attributed that to "award winning journalism."

The crux of the problem is length: "Purple reduces their privacy policy from 1600 words down to just 260"

And: The legalease used in some of these EULA's (and privacy policies). Have you ever tried to read the EULA for something like Windows <X> OS? By the time your finished reading it, and looked up all the terms you don't understand, it's time for Windows <Y> OS.

All contracts and agreements are written by attorneys,.. and they've found the best way to had something, is right out in the open.

And it takes an attorney to find the loop holes... remember this commercial....

And then this.... brought on by a green snot nosed hot shot attorney,... fortunately rare, common sense prevailed in the court case.

Great find! I've looked up TANSTAAFL at least twice (after reading kw's posts), and didn't come across that.

This time I actually remembered what it means...

Yeah.. Like today I was going down the avenue when I remembered today is national hot dog day. Portillos had been advertising the $1 hot dogs (while supplies last) [fair enough] ..

.. Here's the rub.. ( one $1 per customer with entrée purchase)

I had lunch there. Maybe for the last time. I hate "deals" like that.

There might be any such thing as free lunch, but there is such a thing as "free upchuck"!

I would rather be buried up to my neck in an ant hill than clean up after gypsies that pooped on my street. But we don't seem to have that problem here, since all our gypsies are integrated with society and are wonderful people that we love with open arms. Pennsylvania, not so much in some towns. The former is mostly unsubstantiated rumor, and is related to so much of the garbage news we find these days.

I would rather have a mixture of alfalfa leaf meal and honey painted all over my body, and be tied to a post in the middle of a camel pen, than clean up Porta-Potties after any major gathering of people. People are some of the nastiest animals God ever made, why else does it say in the Bible that God lamented he ever made mankind? Pigs are cleaner, and essentially smell better.

Well, there's a restaurant in Milwaukee 'George Webb' who years ago, the owner stated if The Milwaukee Braves (at the time, now its the Milwaukee Brewers) won 12 games in a row, They would give out free hamburgers...

And in 1987, the Brew Crew did indeed win 12 games in a row, and George Webb came through.

It still was not free to George Webb, as great of a guy as he evidently is. Truly, a promise keeping kind of man. A great example.

Actually it turns out, that as the Brew Crew win streak reach 7 games, George Webb's business picked up, and continues through the rest of the season. It really didn;t turn out too bad for him.

I recall when the Brew Crew hit 6-7 wins, no one would expected that Webb would honor that, just due to not only how long ago he said that, as well as The Milwaukee Braves went to Atlanta and Milwaukee became the Brewers and are in the American League. But Webb kept his word, and the current CEO of George Webb said, they'd do it again.

It makes perfect business sense, really. Everyone finds out what a great organization they have going, and they would rather spend their dining out money there instead of elsewhere.

Those were exciting years for the brew crew... heavy hitters, hr records, hits, good pitching and fielding and the voice the the Milwaukee Brewers Bob Uecker on the radio.

That was the first I heard there was such a thing as slugging percentage, which they lead the league. They're doing pretty good this year by leading the NL Center division, by 2-1/2 games over the Cubby's.

But that's not new,... if its anything like the last few seasons, they'll fizzle out by September.

I suppose you can make a license agreement long enough that nobody will read it and you can bury anything in it. It would be interesting to see if it's enforcible. It's just a modern version of "fine print".

Has any End User actually read every word in any EULA? My attention span isn't that long when it comes to legal documents. I don't believe I've even read every word of my own Living Trust! Fortunately, the lawyer who wrote it is a longtime friend, and I trust that he wrote the right words...

What we need is an app that explains what the EULA says...

Maybe there should be one standard EULA or maybe just a few named ones. Everyone should be forced to use one of the standards. If they have special circumstances they could introduce a very small number of deviations provided they could demonstrate that they needed them.

Is there any way this could be made law?

Another excellent idea! This would render Rixter's app unneeded. Unfortunately, this would require legislation, and since a majority of legislators have legal backgrounds, it's not likely to happen without some form of grass-roots initiative. Consumer's Union, perhaps, or something like the California Proposition process to start...

Or just have a seek and destroy APP that finds the slime ball attorney that wrote the EULA and ends him/her/it.

Of course, if it were not for "kiddies" messing and peeing in our pool, we would not need EULA (or Euliss, either).

Oh no! I just found this buried in the usual guff in a free app I just started using:

"By clicking on the <agree> button you have confirmed that at the time of your death your soul will become the property of the devil."

What App is that? I think you can easily repudiate that one any time, by calling on the name above ever other name, and remembering your salvation.
