Plasma Gas Generator

08/29/2007 11:22 AM

If I use a carbon arc cutting rod and draw an arc between a carbon hearth or block, and blow super heated steam through the cutting rod instead of air.

What is the result?

Would I produce CO + H. by cracking the water in the plasma?

Maybe. Why would you want to do that?

You probably would. It all depends on whether or not there's sufficient oxygen to convert the carbon to CO2. If there isn't , you'll get CO. It's not a very wise idea to try it though, since CO is extremely toxic. If you do try it and succeed, it would probably be the last thing you ever do.

Ahah! Is this another free energy generator?

You will--certainly.

And then?

It would seem that this process, or a similar system, is being addopted for breaking down garbage.

Adding garbage, carbon or scrap metal to the plasma obviously has the ability of stripping the oxygen from the steam and combining it with the carbon content of the "fuel" leaving CO+ hyrogen, which can be burned directly by an I.C.Engine. The residue containing oxides, ash etc,is reduced to a glassy clinker suitable for non leachable fill.

It has been claimed , this process will give a surplus of energy, over and above the electrical input providing the plasma.

The design of the furnace in order to retain the heat and gas thus generated, does nor require a fully qualified rocket scientist, but this would certainly help.

Designing a small domestic unit, attached to a duel fuel Briggs and Stratten.would have benefits to those who prefer, not to put the garbage out by the road.

The 18 hp engine, could smokelessly COgenerate power for an hour or two, using the weekly supply of rural dwellers garbage and yard waste, not to mention that which is free to collect, road side.

That would seem to answer the originally-posted question. Thanks for the insight.

gfwhell:

Check out this thread on Plasma Cogeneration there is a link to a company in Ottawa Canada that has built an 80MW plant.
