The Number 3

12/12/2017 9:43 AM

I was confronted again and again with numbers clients always say. It seems like its not a unintentional anymore.

These are their statements

1)"They just started 3 months already"

2) "I already signed a contract 3 months ago"

3) "Now, it took just 3 months surveillance to assasinate a man nowadays"

Do you have better insights about number 3?

Please describe three examples of what is wanted in order to pursue this thread to its natural conclusion?

Transcendental, or maybe not...It's just irrational that these numbers don't come out even.

"Indiana Pi Bill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Indiana Pi Bill is the popular name for bill #246 of the 1897 sitting of the Indiana General Assembly, one of the most notorious attempts to establish mathematical truth by legislative fiat. Despite its name, the main result claimed by the bill is a method to square the circle, rather than to establish a certain value for the mathematical constant π, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The bill, written by amateur mathematician Edward J. Goodwin, does imply various incorrect values of π, such as 3.2.

The bill never became law, due to the intervention of Professor C. A. Waldo of Purdue University, who happened to be present in the legislature on the day it went up for a vote."

Goodwin's model circle as described in section 2 of the bill. It has a diameter of 10 and a stated circumference of "32" (not 31.4159~); the chord of 90° has length stated as "7" (not 7.0710~).

Re: The Number 3

Everyone in Texas knows that pi r round, cornbread r square, unless you cook it in a skillet.

Squaring a circle would not be a useful trade trick. Sounds like in the Indiana legislature, someone stuffed a few square pegs in a few round holes. I don't see how they fit in their stuff leather upholstered chairs, because these guys are asses.

Finding the center of a circle is a very useful trade trick. Finding the approximate center of a circular object that is not a perfect circle is possibly useful, and better than by "eyeball" method.

Nay, Jpool. Nobody wont shoot you if its legal down there. I think dope has a different story than Ice or Speed. Although dope is bad if consumed on large quantities. But Ice side effects are irreversible and its cheap and easy to make on the backyard. It turns people down here into either zombies or criminals.

Very dangerous to kids too.

Nope, I am not an assassin. What I am capable of killing aside from the computer were cockroaches, flies and ants.

That qoute was taken from a conversation of my coworker down here. Our security guard had been shot 11 times. It was almost like a deliberate thing. Everytime theres a government bonus. Someone like try to kill someone to deliver fear so that people wont complain to dutertes admin. This had happened twice already I observed. Why is it that whenever there are beautiful construction sideways people has to be like a dinner. I suspect top management is into some angel worship, oh they have this monument of some angel Michael they call it big and they planned to built thia monument on the top of the hill.

Eyes were like deeply dark I smell Jezeebel inside.

People often forget about the other third stooges. In reverse chronological order they were Curly Joe, Joe Besser and the easily to forget the "fake Shemp" Joe Palma.

Trivia Challenge:

Without going to the Three Stooges Wikipedia page, who was the first of the third stooge?

You're obviously not familiar with the Three Stooges. Larry Fine and Moe Howard are the first two stooges and a variety of already named actors have played the third stooge.

''Groucho'' was the central Marx brother and Harpo was, literally, the clownish one who was mute but was able to communicate effectively with a loud bicycle horn. ''Chico'' was the slighyly brutish one, while ''Zeppo'' was the rarely seen, but very conventional ''straight man'' all back when (slapstick) was ''in vogue'' (in style, not in Vogue, the magazine...), and done relatively tastefully, compared to today..., with possible exceptions being Mae West, and W. C. Fields...

3 is an easy number of items to remember. I had boss that always wanted presentations to have only 3 slides, with no more than 3 items on each slide. It really made you work on being concise!

They're asking for (3) in code.

You count it like this. One, two, few.

Apparently, they need to be taught several lessons:

  1. It is not nice to point
  2. Never point a loaded finger at someone who don't intend to surveil.
  3. already is not a synonym for ago
  4. no need to say just with already or ago
  5. already refer to something in the recent past
  6. three months ago is not recent - except in vitrified wood
  7. don't say now when you mean see
  8. took is the past tense of take, say takes when you mean takes
  9. three's a crowd, especially when having company.
  10. never brag about bumping someone off, or having them bumped off, that is strictly amateur.
  11. why does it require three months, are your assassins on scale wages?
  12. Filipinos are just weird anyway. How come you guys are so violent?

It just happen I live in this dominion of thieves in the government and syndicates. Oh it was a stronghold in this place. I am grateful Duterte came and had started the cleansing. I am in a den of robbers, theives and drug lords, and corrupt politicians.

Pitiful people down here. Lots of evil manipulator in this place. So, most are poor and remained poor for so long. Drugs was used to be the livelihood down here.

And there still dogs of drug lords and politician around. They are starving since most of the drugs had been confiscated by the police. Last week a P100M worth of drugs was seized.

I once been their rabbit. Those idiots think I am a spy. They did not realized that the government hacked and listened to them via mobile and the internet so they were fucked up these times. Prisons here are getting congested already.

I differ.

Finding things do not multiply by three is not trivial. Neither 'T' nor 'P' nor 'S' nor '16' nor '19' nor '20' fit the bill.

Well, three is the number of wise men that visited the birth of the Christ.

Three is the number of the Trinity.

Nobody goes number three, and I would not want to know what that is.

Remember three things....

  1. There is only one thing
  2. IF you stick to that one thing, nothing else means sh**
  3. It is the one thing you gotta figure out

Re: The Number 3

The probability of finding a 3 in the numbers 0 to 9 = 1/10

The probability of finding a 3 in the numbers between 0 to 99 = 18/100

By the time the number you have is big enough, the probability of it having a 3 approaches 1.

Of course this is true of all digits, but it is interesting to note that the author (whose name evades me) who interested me in finding an algorithm to forecast the number of 3s used the number 3 for his example.

I make that 19/100

Interestingly, the thinking behind this algorithm is not too far from the problem "How many people do you have to have in a room before the chances of two sharing a birthday are greater than 50%?".

It is worth distinguishing probability and incidence, though. The incidence of the digit 3 in the series 0,1,2,3...99 is not the same as the probability of picking a number with a 3 in it from the same pack.

Incidence typically requires a specific time, so im this case would require some form of counting. The order and speed would be relevant over various times.

Were you referring to prevalence of 3 at some specific point before 99 counting the natural numbers from low to high as opposed to the probability of a number with a 3 in a random selection 0-99?

Nice one, but since numbers are eternal, incidence and prevalence, and indeed also occurrence, are identical.

Numbers are eternal, you say? Numbers are of man. Seems a bit presumptuous, but if that's how you see it.

Still, since incidence is the rate of occurance over time, it doesn't mean much without time.

Speed is analagous: how far is 60 mph without respect to time? It isn't.

Neither is incidence meaningful without time.

It sort of goes hand-in-glove that randomly drawing any sequence of numbers is still a sequence, and therefore is time-dependent. The time dependency may not be transparently obvious to the casual observer.

It does require self-awareness. Obviously, time progresses or passes during any series of sequential events.

In order.

"... The time dependency may not be transparently obvious to the casual observer. ..."

Indeed, many things that are unreal are not obvious (transparently, transluscently, or opaquely) to a mindful observer casual or otherwise.

How much time do you require for each term in a series? What do you feel is the absolute minimum?

If it is a real amount of time; not infintesimal, then you must still be working on your first series example problem....

Numbers themselves are eternal. Man may give them labels and names, but the relationships between them are independent of those labels. There is no meaning to duration or lifespan in respect of their selection or processing. The number of digit 3s in a series of numbers is independent of the time one takes to find them, independent of the century in which one conducts the search, and independent of any attempt to distinguish incidence and prevalence in this particular situation.

'Number' is our name for the abstraction. The abstraction of numbers is part of the lexicon of very useful languages, generally types of math.

However useful, don't be fooled into thinking the language is the underlying reality. Like any other language is trades reality for a model of abstractions, generally broadly grouping individual distinct things as if they were actually all the same distinct thing in multiple concurrent existence and broadly grouping actions, feelings, experiences as the very same as something similar that has certain distinct qualities that are similar enough.

Math and other languages is a useful shorthand, trading distiction and uniqueness for hot swap utility. Like other languages, the more we human use the language, the more the world appear to be of the language. We think in our languages, and the more you have, the more tools you have for unlocking knowledge of the world (as the language describes the problem at hand).

It is a very convincing paradigm. "It makes sense in this language. Let me use this language to show you why."

Indeed, but the abstraction exists independently of its name

Indeed, but the abstraction does not exist independent of the mind...abstracting.

Third time's a charm.

We "go" on 3...

1

2

3(go)!

Daniel Tammet says "They [numbers] might be very tall and remind me of the number 9, or round and remind me of the number 3."

Depends on whether we are racing or drawing pistols on three. I say go on 2, and mow 'em all down.

Paddy and Murphy, a pair of Irish labourers, were walking past a mature plantation and noticed a sign saying "Tree fellers wanted".

Murphy turned to Paddy and said, "Bejasus. Look at that, now. What a shame there's only two of us".

Here in the U.S. that joke would now be considered racial; not so 50 years ago.

The joke would always have been 'racial' in the sense of culture. More recently the joke might more often be considered innapropriately 'racist' in the use of the term describing derogatory discriptions of differing culture.
