Statistics Aid

05/18/2018 3:20 PM

I'd like to get a consensus of feelings/insight as to what posters would require as the probability level of the occurrence necessary of discrete random events before they would agree that these "random" events are not impossible.

I think the answer lies in the definition of impossible. Any probability greater than zero is not impossible no matter how unlikely.

So that says that "impossible" is entirely subjective and entirely open to the [non-objective] opinion of the individual wishing to support a position.

Of course the truly impossible is entirely subjective and at the mercy of individuals advancing opinions. That is the realm to which impossible things are relegated.

Impossible things do not occur in objective reality; so where else?

What’s built in statistics is the confidence level. 95% is great, but not all stats are 95%.

I think the limit is 1054. Best bet is to use common sense.

Asking for, "a consensus of feelings" here is the definition of an impossibility.
