Like a Bridge Over ... Where am I?

05/23/2018 9:57 AM

I'm not sure who the fellow in the background is, but he too must have been drawn to this location.

River? Where I come from that's a brook, or a stream....or possibly a creek, pronounced crik ....In any case, it's the place your up without a paddle if a flood comes! Nice peaceful setting,,,,good place to paint....

Where I come from, Central Arkansas, there is a creek, not crik, running through my property.

Could you please repost the picture? I can't see it.

It looks like a polar bear in a snowstorm. (I can't see any picture, either.)

It qualifies as a river for Long Island, but that's not saying much.

Re: Like a Bridge Over... Where am I?

Some one built this bridge on waters and must be living there as no one builds for one time use.

There is dirt over the bridge which means it is not much in use now and people must have moved out but there must be some abandoned settlement nearby.

There must be enough reason for giving up this area and sustaining life must be very difficult in past.

There is enough planted green trees of one kind which means it may be a commercial planted wood farm with some ownership.

Water is shallow and narrow which makes it for irrigation linked to some reservoir. Look at the incoming source and walk towards it. Do not walk towards flow.

May be GPS can help unless there is someone to tell otherwise.

Finally good luck.

Far from long island..

Far from any settlement..

Not a commercial property.

Elevation just shy of 1500 feet

Possibly the headwaters of the Mississippi just south of Lake Itasca?

Oh nice. 100% correct.

The mighty Mississippi it is..

And that's the first bridge about 20 yards from lake Itasca.

There's a spot we stopped at where it's only about 3 feet wide and as deep.. apparently you can launch your canoe right there. Very paecefull

I guess there will be little tidal change that far upstream.

Unlike the Hudson which is tidal up to Albany ... but it's not nearly as long as the MS.

The image presented here is of a snowstorm in Alaska with a UK "No Entry" road-sign faded to grey.

Is this a google photos issue?

I have been wondering.. and having an issue with the use of this service since giving it a go.

So.. quick question? Are those of you who CAN see the image users of Google Photos? and what about those who can't see it.. Do you NOT use google photos?

I thought I had this licked by saving to my Gallery as well as G.P., but ... perhaps not so.

Here's a pic i sourced from the webblenet .. hopefully more visible..

It shows the bridge and the lake ..

Can see this all right, but OP pic (here in Thailand, anyway) is the polar bear in the snow storm - & he is probably facing the other way -

Tried both IE and Chrome.

I do not use Google photos, and could not see the first photo. But the second try is nice.

I did have problems with Gmail, and have now switched to Thunderbird. For photo stuff I use FastStone which does everything I need except edge smoothing to remove pixelation, which I seldom run into. I can increase the pixels easily, but it doesn't remove the jagged edges.

Now I don't see an image. The image size (1265 X 949) exceeds my laptop screen size when I reply.

I gather you did see one earlier, but now you don't.

I can see the image in post 15, but never saw anything but the "Do not Enter" symbol in the OP.

I'm not familiar with Google Photos or Google images, so obviously don't use it/them.

Wow! That must be a pretty small laptop, or pretty old... My 6-year-old 15" laptop has 2880 x 1800 pixels.

I don't believe you that your not familiar with Google images, but, just in case...

Go to google

Click on the word images to the right of Gmail

You get a slightly different search window:-

There are two things you can do: either type in a search term (source of Mississippi river):-

Or, if you want to find other versions of a picture you have then click on the little black camera and either enter the URL of an image, or, upload an image from your PC.

For Google Photos: go to google and click on the three by three matrix of dots just to the left of images (above):-

Then click on the photos icon

I'm sure you can use this in many ways, but, I'm very simple, and, when you use an android phone any pictures you take with the phone magically appear in the photos area so you can save them to somewhere sensible on your PC without having to connect your phone to your PC.

"I don't believe you that your[sic] not familiar with Google images,..."

Why would you not believe it? Every individual is different, has different experiences, and uses different tools.

I've been a Mac user since the beginning (1984), and an iPhone user since iPhone 3. The photos I take on the iPhone can be transferred automatically to the Mac, although I choose to do it manually. Nearly all the manipulation of photos I do, is done in Apple's Photos app, with occasional additions in my CAD program.

Thanks for the directions. I did take a look... When I went to Google's website, the initial image was different, but I found both images and photos. The initial photo search I did failed to provide anything useful, but that was undoubtedly due to the search phrase... I prefer to store all my images locally, so am still not aware of a need for Google Photos.

I do use Google's search engine at times, and I definitely use GoogleEarth Pro regularly, but for privacy/security reasons generally avoid the other Google apps.

No, it's a fairly new windoze IO. The image dimensions were from "inspecting" the Chrome web browser data. The image would have fit my screen but didn't auto scale to fit inside a subsection window (like this text entry box). As usual when auto scaling failed, the text entry box when making a reply grew off the subsection widow.

Speaking of troubled bridges, has anyone heard anything about that pedestrian bridge collapse in Florida?
