If I try to evaluate all the great stuff people have kindly offered-up, I may be doing so for a long time. Glad kitty is pleased. Starting something useful might ruin my rep though !

Some of the stuff that can be done with software is amazing, especially the fractal drawing stuff because of the surprise element.

Sadly the audio stuff is another gaping hole in my knowledge. However, there's something almost sexual when you see stuff built that way. When people lovingly restore/re-create that stuff it's a beaut just to look at. Also, if you walk into a room, you sometimes stop, and just know it's got to be valve driven sound. Having said that, I still weep over the demise of Gate-fold sleeves on vinyl.

I really must stop fooling around ,and produce some drawings with all the links folk have supplied ! I expected a couple of useful bits of software, but theres been an avalanche of stuff. Hope all (including those just reading and not posting) have found something of use to their purpose. If I post another scanned doodle after all this I'll deserve the barrage I get ! He he.. I'd noticed before. There's a couple of us CR4ers South of the Thames. Occasionally I take the kids on a day out to Hastings/Rye - I prefer the latter, but of course they like the amusement type stuff in Hastings. Wahh ! That bunch from London and further NE are a shower aren't they.Bally well let the side down. LOL (that'll bring 'em out). I'm a sort of interloper - most of my life living in one part of England or another. Are those lifts in Hastings 'water' ones ? I've not been on them. The town has a real 'Deco' architecture feel to it in places.

Rye is quite interesting but I still get lost in the one way system.

The funicular railways are driven by an electric motor aided by the two carriages counterbalancing each other, they've both been out of action recently, one for refurbishment & the other had a derailment that caused minor damage. I'm not sure if either is working again yet. Hastings has some charm but it's mainly confined to the 'old town' area.

If you're going to visit, try the 13th October & take in the Hastings Day parade & firework display, it will be one of the best displays you will see. (I'm a little biased because I'll be with the guys on the beach lighting the fireworks.)

Although I work in Hastings I live 10 miles down the coast.

Hey, that's really cool about the fireworks ! Where's the best view, down on the front or up on the cliffs ? Not sure if I can make it without some checking, but it sounds like fun. I mentioned the lifts because Folkestone (not far from me) has similar. At one time there were 3 I think, and a restoration project for one of them is sort of slowly happening. At one time Folkestone had some charm, not much now sadly. Best be careful or our Scottish chums will invade talking Falkirirk Wheel ! They're on another plane though.

The front is best if you like the energy of the crowd but the West hill is better if you prefer a quieter view.

I was a sailor once, in the Royal Australian Navy. I suppose ther is some difference come to think of it, between the RAN and the RN. We were far more cultured than those of our "shipmates" in the RN.

When I was I kid we used to go 20-30 miles out in the Gulf in a 24' CruiseCraft to fish for King Macs and shark.

In preparation, I took a 2 day class (organized by my step-dad and his cohorts) to gain some knowledge about good fishing practices. Long story short; at the end of it all the old salt offered me and the other 2 young men a certificate of completion.

I have inspired my teenage son to take an interest in electical circuitry. Suggesting that he can make a circuit to flash a lamp when anyone approaches his bedroom door, has done more then his School teachers have managed. Well, I guess we've all been there. All things have an application !

We also have a few problems with those things that swim in the sea, not box jellyfish or coral snakes, but those big things with sharp teeth..............not salt water crocagators,but sharks.........white pointers. I'm glad you didn't stick an extra full-stop in that least sentance ! Teaching's a noble profession, but it must require a certain level of insanity. If true, I'd certainly meet at least one of the selection criteria.

A certain level of insanity is essential, it gets you through those hard times and there are certainly some of them. I must admit it is a lot easier teaching mature age students than the younger rabble, They are there because they not only have to learn but, actually want to learn.

Any good supervisor, especially in engineering, must be a teacher. When one floats at the top of the pyramid, he is supported by buoyancy provided by those under him. In order for him to rise to new heights, he must raise the heights of each layer below, thus imparting his knowledge (or knowhow) to the two supporting him so they can fill the void left when he move upward. Anyone with ambition to improve knows this and works hard to train his replacements while graciously accepting the training from those whom he supports. Also, if he is wise, he will reach out and continue his education from what ever source he can find, realizing that he can never know too much. Learning is on ongoing requirement of life.

Speaking of "old farts", I bet none are older than mine.

I wouldn't bet on that one...........you need to ask those I work with and most of my students.
