Try "Thermal" or " Thermodynamics" and keep yourself busy.

I presume u r doing it at Oklahoma U, rt? well why not give either I.C. Engines oriented or alternative source of fuels for I.C. Engines a shot ? Alternatively, may be if you are planning to head back home(india)after graduation/post-graduation,may be Aeronautical/Aerospace would be good choice. Lotsa scope. Good Luck. Radirs.

Facilities available in your institute and your own interest are often good pointer to topic selection. Each person will suggest his or her interest area which may go totally against your own strength or interest of the institute, Hence, avoid such things. Walk into your lab and look in which area your professors get funding. Are they having any NSF supported project or other grant and then get involved in small area research which may also open a way for you to take up higher research or Ph.D.

You need to give your own pointers to people if you have problem and others may just hint you to look into right things. I hope this may work better for you. You are in graduation so you can not be all that dumb not to figure out your own interest area. Graduation is actually to make you tougher in life to survive and to find out your own world you do some search and real work and it is no longer a spoon feeding age any more. Plunge into your own idea and you will swim out for sure.

I wish you good luck.

5 stars, Shyam! I'd give you six out of five for this one if it were possible.

Here is an interesting project.

You can investigate the effect of feed water heaters on the performance of steam power plants. Number of F/H and type , i.e., open or closed type either drain cascaded backward or pumped forward.

Good luck.

you have short listed thermodynamics as your intrest , you can scan internet with wikipedia for the said topic , basically its great to put your ideas to work instead of repeating tried & tested ones , if you sea this perticular site CR4 regularly you get lots of new topics to learn & discuss , you have energy related topics, heat conservation , waste energy recovery , fuel efficiency

Try to design a Heat Exchanger, where there are a heating and cooling mediums, and discover the cooling and heating rates and capacities through a tubes with different metals and different sizes.
