Loud "Music"

10/04/2007 2:17 PM

How do we convince bars, nightclubs, etc. that their too loud music is damaging people's (often young people)hearing?

Make the owners set in front of the blaring speakers for at lest a week 24-7. That might convince them.

Stop patronizing them.

I don't mean to offend, but what is it with our society that we have to ask such questions?

It is like going back to a bad restaurant over and over again and expecting it to magically get better.

Should we have the government step in?

Here is a novel thought. Maybe we should just not buy something if we don't like it. All people have to do is politely say that they don't like this or that; explain what it is you don't like, and tell the establishment that will not return until it is changed if it bothers them that much.

However, if people bellyache about something ad nausium and refuse to change their consuming habits, then eat what is on your plate.

Keep the young children from going there (bars, nightclubs etc).

Second option - take a portable sound blaster with you and play alternative music (Mario Lanza, Pavarotti or Caruso in concert) at high volumes. that should teach them not to mess with you.

I worked in the entertainment industry for years and live in the 'Live Music Capital of the World'.

Sound levels, mainly outdoor, are often monitored for acceptable levels. Indoors it is a different matter. A person chooses to subject themselves to whatever levels are being generated and may leave as he or she wishes.

So what shall we do? Teach our children the need to make good decisions.

Some kids are having sex, drinking, smoking, using drugs, committing acts of violence, learning nothing or next to nothing in school, driving at speeds that endanger themselves and others ......what? Huh..how's that? Oh. I see.

Well it seems that kids have been doing these things for years, as I am told. Hmmm. So loud music? Yes, I agree we should not allow kids to drive fast, have sex, use drugs, be racially intolerant, violent, smoke cigarettes or steal while listening to loud music.

I have been in bars where the maximum recommended volume was enforced by a cut-out on the amplifiers - set them too high, and you get silence!

Quite.

There is an entertainment venue in Bulphan that has one of these fitted. There's a sound meter connected into the power circuits in the room. Green lights on the indicator are OK. Up to two yellow lights is a warning. More than one red light and blam! The power goes off!!

Talk about Total Harmonic Distortion!!
