There are lots of books on AutoCAD. You can try Google or check your neighborhood bookstore.

I was in the same situation a few years ago. I had used the first version of AutoCAD and then stopped. The next one I encountered was 2003. Basically, the differences were minor, you can still draw the same way as you used to. The only thing was there were a lot of new features and a few methods had changed. It took some time to learn but I got through it without buying a book or guide.

I've changed over completely to PowerPoint but then, my needs are not sophisticated enough to require AutoCAD, so I'm happy.

I not so sure if my suggestions will provide more help than what you already have recived but here is what I will do if I need to start a drawing from scratch:

Open your cad-->select AutoCAD Classic on the dropdown menu located on the tool bar right under file. This will set you on a 2d mode. It is best if you work on such enviroment till you get familiar with the tool.

Next double click on the layers tool located at the tool bar and create layers for each item you intem to draw. Be very specific about your names. Try to avoid ambiguity using the same color for more than one layer.

Next go to TOOLS-->Drafting Settings-->Object Snap and check and slect everything except parallel. For now don't mess with any other settings leave them as they appear to you.

Before begin drawing anything select the layer you want to use for your item to be sketch on the dop down list right next to layer tool. do this for each individual sketch. You can experiment drawing different lines using the line tool available on the tool palete. As you execute any command you will see the course of your actions on the botoom of the window "Command: " It will tell what you want to do next.

I hope that this basic intruction will be some how helpful to you

It would be quite in order for the employee to request training from the employer. Training is the process of encouraging the desired behaviour. If the emplyer wants the employee to use A2004 and the employee hasn't been trained on it, it is in both parties' interests to have the appropriate training completed.

However this makes the assumption that there is an employer... it seems likely we're discussing an altogether less formal implementation of the software in this instance...

Thanks for your feedback, I actually was trying to help the person requesting assistance with AutoCAD. Some how it was understood that I am the one needed it, which is not the case. My apologies for such an inconvinience.

When I was in your position, I found Inside AutoCAD quite helpful, and not too expensive.

I found myself in the same situation and the above responder is correct, there is not that much difference but there are better features and you probably have been away from it so long that you are very rusty. I purchased an AutoCAD 20004 for dummies and it was very helpful.

CHECK AUTODESK WEBSITE; GOOGLE "AUTOCAD" AND SEARCH FOR MANUALS W/ CD TUTORIALS; CHECK BOOKSTORES LIKE BARNES & NOBLE FOR MANUALS W/ CD TUTORIALS; CHECK LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES FOR AUTOCAD COURSES ALTHOUGH THE VERSION BEING TAUGHT MAY NOT BE 2004 YOUR INSTRUCTOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP YOU OUT W/ MINOR CHANGES. IN MY OFFICE A FEW OF US WHO ONLY USE AUTOCAD FOR CONCEPTUAL DESIGN WORK STILL USE 2000, WHILE THE CADD OPERATORS USE AUTOCAD MAP AND/OR CIVIL 3D 2008. IF YOUR CLASS IS IN 2007 YOU CAN SAVE YOUR WORK IN CLASS TO 2004 AND USE IT ON YOUR WORK STATION.

Pls. take time to read the help files within the ACAD environment. Thats how I learnt ACAD years ago; and my colleagues always say I'm too good. Its a resource center. One never knows, good luck.
