AutoCad-2007 3D Polyline

10/10/2007 8:18 PM

I use the AutoCad-2007 to extrude multi-plane 3D Polyline to the piping and ducts systems. But... I cannot find a way to arrange the elbows on the piping turns.

Please, give me an advice not just your guess.

Though I dont understand what your meaning exactly, I havnt seen 2007 version Im still using 2000 occationally,

I guess you try to link a region constructed by a ployline surrounding to a pipe type smoothly.

try to sue spline or loft command. that will do the trick.

Assuming that you are using a library of standard components, and adding the piping to join them, use a workplane on the centre line of the elbow. This can then be angled in each direction from the reference plane as required.

Where several pipes need arranged to run together, align by their workplanes.

I assume you are doing a spline or smoothing opp on the line and that an elbow / bend is straightened out.

In that case you should do smoothing on lines between elbows.

What is needed is that arcs should be added as unmovable fixed points.

I haven't used AutoCad lately and I don't know the current limitations and features.

then the poly line is not contiguous that is it has a gap make shure you window the extence then it should prompt connect it should then extrude as a single entaty

post the graphic for trial

I try to draw to refer to. but i find the loft command is in other software. sorry for it. I almost forget for not long time use this cad. you can also bend it as you like shape.

1. This is 2D Polyline (in one plane)

2. The line with fillets and circle

3. The line is extruded

3D polyline does not accept Fillet (elbow). This is the problem.

Try this:

Set up a new 3-point UCS with the origin at the bend/ corner point and the x and y axis aligned with the contigous pipe centerlines.

Put in your elbows in form of circular curves (circle tan tan rad), then trim accordingly.

Once you have all bends in place, highlight your pipe centerlines and convert those to a pipe-path.

On one end, make a perpendicular circle or donut as your pipe profile.

Extrude as a sweep along pathline.

Voila, you gotst a pipeline!

Hope this helps....... good luck!

I agree.... solid works is the way to go when it comes to this sort of thing. I work on the mechanical systems for a mega yacht builder in the Pacific North West. We model just about everything. My responsibilities are mostly from the engine room aft.

For simple piping all you have to do is construct a 3d sketch and extrude the pipe. Adding the fittings then could not be easier.

I also do independent modeling for other companies and will often receive reference work as 3d Auto Cad... soooo painful to work with.

Bite the bullet and learn Solid Works and you won't regret it.

If you allready have the elbows drawn in a library you can place the elbow near where you want it, then do the align command. it will prompt for what points you want to align. I use the centerpoints of the pipe and elbows and after you identify the point to align, it does it for you.

Hi!.

If Autocad 2007 runs as 2005 wich I´m almost sure, all you need to do is to invoque the revsur or revolving surface comand which will ask you for the object you want to define the seccion of the elbow (it can be a circle, a saquare, a poligon etc.) and then select a line (wich have to be previously provided and perpendicular to the plan containig the objet which will define the sección of the elbow) as the axis of revolution, then define the starting angle of the elbow, then the angle described by this and at last enter.

It's not that difficult but you will have to practice a little.

Good luck!.

Call or e-mail Autocad Technical Support for help. That should be the best resource for help of that sort.

The best way is to use the new sweep command in acad 2007 which works perfectly!
