Maybe, though life will not be here to witness it! The original post requests the expression of opinions, so here is a conceptual calculation on the back-of-an-envelope.

Assuming the earth is a homogeneous sphere (it isn't) for the purposes of getting anything meaningful from the energy of rotation calculation, and that the direction of the rotation is completely reversed so that the sun rises in the west, where is the 2.6 x 10²⁹J (1.2 x 10¹⁰ gigatons TNT equivalent) of energy going to come from in order to do this and how will life survive its arrival? Indeed, how would the Earth itself survive? Assuming the energy came from outside the Earth/Moon system, it's the equivalent of hitting Earth with something the size of Venus in a deep, oblique impact and then separating the two masses again into two spheres.

It is unlikely that there would be any opinions left locally after this size of cataclysm and the chances of it happening put 'someday' way out into the future, way beyond the need for human concern.

Are those numbers the current rotational energy for Earth? Or did you double the current rotational energy since you need that much to arrest the current rotation and then apply another helping to get the Earth to go from a dead stop to opposite rotation.

To the lady's comment, think of reversing the Earth's spin as trying to get local government to agree on changing the name of the main street in your city. The easier way would be to just go out to the corner and rotate the street sign.

In other words, magnetic pole reversals have happened in the past and another is due in the not too distant future. When the poles reverse, the North pole will migrate to the South pole and visa-versa. At that point the Sun will raise in the west.

If I am still alive when that happens, being the business guy I am I will open up a cottage industry repainting the letters on compasses and retire.

Surely there is some interaction between Solar and Earth magnetic field. Although that force may be very small, wouldn't the reversal of either impart a slight force that would translate to torque along the length of the magnetic axis?

Also, how does the earths spin axis precess if there is no outside force acting along the spin axis.

If a top on the space station is spun up with its rotational axis perpendicular to earths gravitational field would it still precess?

What is the magnetic relationship between the Sun and Earth? One of attraction or repulsion. Equilibrium is attraction.

getting the earth reversing the direction of spin twice in a 24hours would be hard.

The effect can be obtained if a big object (Mars sized) passes by at a distance and move the earth in its orbit.

In a specific area the sun may then appear to be rising in the west but the rotational speed may stay the same, once the pulling force disappear it would be business as usual..
