People Are Jailbreaking Used Teslas to Get the Features They Expect

The chassis I saw is from a Model S. The workmanship is not to 2018 manufacturing/engineering levels (when I saw the car). The Model 3, I can't say, because I haven't see the chassis.

Regarding electronics, the Tesla is far superior to anything I've seen. It's very well engineered and the build quality is excellent.

So in 2018, the Tesla Model S was 2 generations behind Audi in mechanical engineering and build quality. Today's Model 3 may quite well be better. I know they changed the motor and the philosophy of eV propulsion. I'm not sure about the suspension and the casting of the parts.

Regarding the Taycan; Porsche built an amazing car. Yes, they charge a lot for it, but it's a Porsche and people pay for the quality, performance, safety and of course that crest. I've owned some Porsche's over the years and I do like the car a lot. I tell people that there isn't another company that can get power to the ground so efficiently and that builds such a great suspension that it makes you a better driver.

Last year, I had a Porsche Cayman 987 that I took through Hwy 2 (Angeles Crest Hwy) in the rain/sleet/snow. It wasn't my car, so I drove gingerly at first. When I had an opening, I hit a corner a little faster - no problem! Then a little faster on the next! Pretty soon, I was ripping through corners, stomping on the brakes, flooring the gas - driving like a lunatic. All of this in the evening (dark skies with no street lights). The Cayman is so well balanced, light and basically a square. All these together make it rotate so well! Add to this a low center of gravity a nice flat 6 and great visibility - now you have a cornering monster. Would I have done this in a 997? Probably not, because hanging that motor out makes the rear end like a pendulum and pushing the gas through a fast corner and worrying about what will happen if I lift throttle - that doesn't inspire confidence.

Regarding Jaguar! I love Jags for what they are. Yes, I've owned a couple of them and I really like the car. I call it the nicest place to sit - the front seat is great, but the back seat in my Vanden Plas was the most comfortable. And the stereo system was superb! It doesn't handle like a BMW. Ergononics stink - why did they put that button, switch, lever, etc THERE!!! Getting in and out isn't easy like a luxury car should be. Both of my XJ's were remarkably reliable - better than my midsize BMW (V8), Merc (straight 6) and Audi cars! The motor is nice, but not BMW/Merc nice.

The F Type does put out a lot of power and it sure makes all the right noises, but I don't own one. The I Pace is a lot of money. A LOT. Reliable? I don't know, but I haven't heard any complaints.

Why do Jaguar owners buy a Jaguar? I think there's a few reasons.

1. They're very, very luxurious.

2. They're not run of the mill - I see lots and lots of S Class Mercs and 7 Series BMW's, but not a lot of XJ's.

3. They feel very special.

4. They're beautiful!

I once read that the median income for a Jaguar XJ owner is over $200K per year - I believe that when I started in the business in 2002 - Quite a bit more than an S-Class or 7 Series owner.
