A Couple Thoughts While I was Hiking Last Weekend.

01/02/2021 3:20 AM

Almost every weekend, I go for a nice long hike - definitely some elevation and a decent amount of miles. While on my hikes, my mind starts thinking of things and I come up with some interesting ideas. Two that came to mind - the second one I'm concerned about. Here's my thoughts:

1. During our country's history, our citizens have gone to battle to protect our nation. If there's a war, I believe that young, able bodied men should volunteer to be of service. So, I thought about Covid 19 and how this is a war we're in. A war with the spread of virus. My idea is that able bodied men should volunteer. Only men with strong immune systems will be allowed. We would send these men to a virus boot camp, where they'll be quarantined on a military facility. They'll then be exposed to low levels of Covid 19. They'll be allowed to go about the day as they like and the medical staff will monitor their response. Once the body fights off the virus, the "soldier" would then be able to do tasks that are risky due to Covid. For instance, medical assistance, food prep and delivery to homes, any job requiring public interaction, etc. Also, he'll be required to donate his plasma - it has the antibody for Covid! When Covid is under control, these men will be able to go back to their normal lives.

2. i was thinking about the vaccine and I wonder if the push is so strong, because the govt officials feel that we're vulnerable to a terrorist attack - where they send sick people into big cities and actively carry the virus to as many people as they can - kill us from within. If our gov't officials know this, then the only way to protect us against a terrorist attack is to vaccinate the bulk of the population.

Anyway, those were my two thoughts. Let me know what you think. And since this is a war with the virus, would you be willing to volunteer to be infected with Covid?

1. Horrible idea; reeks of improper coercion.

2. So what about terrorists? A stupid subset of our citizenry is already infecting itself, and others, by defying protective measures.

We have to do something about our youth! No coercion, but how about instilling a belief that there is something more important than video games, pot and self centered things - selfies, COME ON! This current generation is so into themselves or believing in a cause that goes against our civilization and what their parents have done for them. So giving them a choice to do something patriotic may instill a desire to think less about themself and more about our country. They cry "down with the wealthy" as they're driving their brand new car that mommy and daddy just bought them. Their parents work hard to give them a good life. Then protesting for the homeless to live wherever they want - in the neighborhood mommy and daddy chose, because it's safe and free from the filth (the filth that they're supporting)?

A good example is when homeless people started moving in to Echo Park Lake last December (2019). The younger residents (not the homeless) welcomed them and would bring them food and donations (money and things they would need). The older residents told them they've seen this before and it wasn't a good idea. They complained that the homeless shouldn't be there, the safety of the are would be at risk, trash would be everywhere, disease, etc and they'd make a mess (the city paid $45M for a two year renovation) https://travelswithmaitaitom.com/echo-park-lake-echo-park-los-angeles/ and once settled, there would be no way to get rid of them. At the local community meetings, the younger residents brought in far left instigators and their nasty tactics. The meetings were a chaotic mess, nothing was accomplished, except the nice clean neighborhood was now divided.

Covid hit and more homeless moved in. Then more moved in. Soon the dozen or so tents turned into over a hundred. Trash and filth was everywhere. The beautiful landscaping was ruined. Homeless pissing and taking a dump where ever they wanted. Throwing trash in the lake! Disgusting filth!

The LA BLM rallies/riots brought more "travelers" to Echo Park. 24 hour parties, loud music, drugs and a ex convict run "police" to run the place. Then in August, a young girl from San Diego came to town for a BLM event. She wound up dead in a tent - they said it was a drug OD. By fall, there were three deaths in Echo Park Lake and the city officials couldn't do anything. Every attempt to clear out the homeless was stopped by outside radical left groups.

Oh yeah, two days ago, another body was pulled from the lake.

You have my condolences. Too many will realize their mistakes after it is too late to do anything about it.

At least I don't live there!

Though we're having more and more problems where I live.

The youth? They're dying off at an incredibly lower rate from this disease, they are getting immune. Video gaming isn't against C19 protocols, MMORPG actually supports C19 protocols.

We have huge homeless problems in Washington State, too...Seattle is an obvious location.

Oddly enough, the C19 plague hasn't affected the homeless population the way all of the chicken littles said it would.

Chicken Littles, indeed.

What you're idealizing is building up a herd immunity in a controlled fashion. An army of naturally immune people (those who survive the experiment, since young people mysteriously die anyway) who would be able to help and not infect along the way.

Is that it in a nutshell?

Pretty much what I was thinking.

I've spoken to at least a dozen people who have had Covid and only two had to go to the hospital. Both have pretty bad pre-existing conditions, so it's expected. The others were sick for a few days to a couple weeks. Body aches, loss of taste and smell, weakness and irritability were some of the common symptoms. A few were exposed, but didn't test positive. They lived in the same house where a family member had Covid, but their immune system kept them from getting sick.

I'm wondering if one heck of a lot more people have had this thing.

More people should go on hikes... get them away from group think mentality.

In the US we are averaging 200,000 new cases a day....vaccinations are probably being administered at that rate or above and climbing...This ordeal will have run it's course by the time you could even start...not that anybody would agree to such a plan...

I'm just trying to find a solution ... thinking outside the box.

I'm probably too old to be asked, but if I was, I'd go. I'm in decent shape and I'm healthy. Same as if we were at war. If asked, I'd join the military and I'd definitely fight.

And I do worry about terrorists. The images of the plane striking our WTC towers. Like the generation before me will always remember the day Kennedy was shot. We have to live with the threat of terrorists doing their thing on our soil - it'll be with us forever.
