Fastest fingers!

11/27/2007 5:51 PM

I visited a Ham friend and he showed me a video clipping (sorry no links available) of a speed competition between the mobile SMS king and a Morse operator.

The 150 year old Morse technology had a victory with lots of time to spare.

What speed can you do? Keyboard, normal mobile SMS, keyboard mobiles, Morse.

I don't compete m1`y speed is measured per century.

Hams it is time to boast

Hendrik,

I believe that it was the cow that jumped over the moon (a la hey diddle diddle).

But I was mistaken - the fox jumps (not jumped) over the dog... otherwise, there would be no "s" in the sentence, thereby disqualifying it as a pangram...

My results:

Keyboard: 9.6 sec.

SMS (blackberry): 14.9 sec.

(I'm pretty slow!)

----------------------------------------------

I wonder how I'd do in Morse and semaphore - I recall learning them both many years ago, when I was in the boy scouts, but that was a looong time ago...

About a year ago, a 90 year OM using cw beat up on a 14 year old girl using IM on late night tv (David Letterman or Jay Leno, I forget which one).

The story received international attention at the time and for the next 15 minutes, the old guy was famous. Don't know what happened to the girl. Probably bought a new phone!

Maybe she learned Morse code. I can copy 20 words per minute with the right frame of mind and on a good day... but those are few and far between.
