Sorry but I can't understand what you're asking for.

You want to parallel two computers? In what way? What do you hope to achieve?

You'll need to give a little more detail so that I can understand your need and come up with an answer (which I hope I can give ).

The PC parallel port is an expensive yet a powerful platform for implementing projects dealing with the control of real-world peripherals. This port can be used to control the printer as also household and other electrical appliances. The computer program through the interface circuit controls the relays, which, in turn, switch the appliances on or off. The parallel port has 12 outputs including 8 data lines and 4 control lines. The circuit described here can be used to control up to 255 electrical appliances using only eight data lines from the parallel port. Besides, the software program allows the users to know the current status of the loads.

Yes, I know all that. But it still doesn't answer my question.

What, exactly, is meant by "a device switching pc's parallel computer"?

If he had said, "parallel port" then he would have made sense and your comments would be the answer. A "parallel computer" is a different thing altogether.

You're more likely to get a result if you register!

Yup, here we are, three days later and no further comments from our guest poster.

One of the problems with being a guest is that it's possible that he could forget that he's posted something here. Without the email notification, he won't know about it until he comes back.

Then again, if he forgot to bookmark his thread, he could be searching for his post among the several dozens generated over the past days.

Just a couple more reasons for signing up.

If understood correctly you want to switch devices using th parallel printer port.

The printer port can control up to 4 stepper motors or up to 64 independent switches

(in banks of 8),

You could use the parallel port for inputs as well 4 or up to 32 multiplexed.

if designed properly 16 inputs and 32 outputs would be easy.

By using the serial ports and games port as well the PC can be turned into nice PLC.

There are some links available but for myself I gave up the memory game and has lost the paper war already.

Please give us some more detail and I am sure someone with a better memory will help.

Instead of asking here you should google for similar projects like the one you're faced with.

What I gather is that you are upgrading your data base to a newer system and you want to use the parallel method.

Have you done a risk analysis as to how to go about it first. Sometimes it might be more cost effective to just shut down and remove the old system and install the new one.

To do a parallel method you have to have more people available to run both systems until the new system takes over.

There are lots of similar projects that are posted on the internet. They can give you problems encountered and solutions to resolve them.

I don't work in Business Information Systems but I do have my degree in Project Management.

I don't think you have enough information to make a judgment call like that.

Many projects that have been completed are available online for others to review for their lessons learned and other data to assist anyone starting a new project.

There are other sources that was just an easy one to mention if that was what you were referring too.

Without having the full scope of his project we can't really do anything but speculate what he wants.

So, if I don't have the information to make my judgment call, how'd it get to administering databases?

I'd have thought the "guesses" above were closer to what was being requested...

now (tounge in cheek).. if your a project manager and go off with "assumptions" then I'm going to step aside and stay away from your projects, as assuming gets you in to too much trouble

I just don't see enough information in his post and want to draw more out of him.

It really doesn't matter if it involves data bases, building homes or designing and building machinery. The processes for a project are the same.

What I gather is Guest up there is a student that was trying to get someone else to hand him a canned homework assignment and not do any of the work himself.

I have my degree in Project Management. I am Quality Control Supervisor/Safety Supervisor/Engineering Support where I work.

So you're safe. You don't have to worry about getting near any of my projects.

And it seems like Guest has English as his second language because some of his terminology is unfamiliar to me.
