Lexmark Printers

12/03/2007 2:58 PM

Guess what!! I've got a Lexmark X73 printer that I properly uninstalled using the "Uninstall" program of the printer file folder. Now I get a PrinTray.dll not found error. While it is mostly just an annoyance, that I must acknowledge every time I boot up, it will occassionally cause "spool32" error, and I really want to get rid of it. I have looked at the Install disk that came with the printer and Printray.dll ain't there. I've tried reinstalling the printer. the Problem still exists. I just want the d__n thing gone. I contacted Lexmark and they politely informed me that they no longer support WIN 98 OS and suggested that I upgrade. My current program only runs on win 98 and it would cost multiple thousands of dollars for me to change OS. Anyone want to tackle this one?? Evidently I am not the only one who ever got a cheap printer. I guess you get what you pay for.

I sincerely appreciate your help. I went to the site you listed and downloaded it to my desktop. I then moved it into \windows\system and the problem seems to have disappeared. Thanks again for your help.

I don't think the printer is the only culprit. Get it out of the system tray and startup setup.

My initail thought would be to reinstall windows, but you may find the driver on your windows disc. Are you running 98 Second Edition? I found this at http://www.geek.com/forums/topic.php?id=21754&page Maybe it will help. Much Luck!∞

This is an error caused by a Windows version that has an early version of Spoolss.dll. Usually an early version of Windows 98 or Windows ME.

You can usually fix it by installing a version of Spoolss.dll that is later than the one on your computer. You can find it on more recent version sof Windows 98SE or Windows ME... or you can go to the www.microsoft.com knowledge base and learn how to download it there.

It is usually activated when you add a network, or when you upgrade your printer or other hardware that has fancier printing or network activity.

You can also find more information in the Microsoft knowlege base, or from the supplier of your computer software.
