I was just watching Wheel Of Fortune. The directors had Pat change his tie because the colors of his tie were clashing or causing some can of problem when displayed on the monitor. Pat mentioned HD. Does HD have problems with colors clashing?

Hello pgcoop,

  1. To be able to answer your question, please advise what HD stands for.
  2. Also advise which Country the "Wheel of Fortune" show you watched was showing in.

Thank you....

I don't know about HD etc.

The tie must have interfered with the light intensity meter on the system. Probably reflecting too much light of a particular frequency and thereby resulting in an unbalanced setting.

HD aside, they may have been using 'blue screen' superimposition techniques (as used for filming 'Superman' etc.) where everything of a specific colour is treated as transparent, allowing a background image to show through. This would probably have animated the tie on screen.

Hello again, pgcoop,

I've just had a further think about this question.

HD evidently stands for High Definition TV.

In the context of the "clashing tie", it may well have been a tie with a striped or herringbone pattern on the front.

Ties with some colour/stripe combinations, have in the past caused odd effects at the receiver, after the signal processing in the Studio, transmitter, and receiver.

Kind Regards.....

The problem is usually stripes causing Moiré fringes with the line scan. Thes fringes are the broad shadow like lines you can see sometimes when looking at a mesh or through near parallel railings.
