Thermal overload relay

01/20/2022 1:26 AM

We have a thermal relay which prevent motors from overloading, since sometimes i noticed that it didn't trip the motor right after it achieved full load current but with delay of 20, 30 secs. I checked relay NC NO connections with an electronics multi meter found them ok. What could be reason behind it

Apparently it should not delay tripping if relay don't have timer within it. Also make sure that the meter you used is accurate and good in quality. You should have quality electronics meter.

Nothing wrong here. Overload relays are not supposed to trip immediately on small or brief excursions of current over FLC (FLA).

...otherwise the motor wouldn't have enough time to come up to speed before the overload lets go of it.
