As various global economies recover, I suspect CO2 emissions will begin rising again unless there is a significant push towards more nuclear power.

Nukes are 20 years away, but I'm all for nuclear power.

We get some energy of our energy from the Palo Verde Generating Station

Maybe AI will save us and make a conductor that has no resistance.

Or enough politicians are bought to make it profitable for the oligarchs.

Not normally traditional designed nuclear power plants…

20 years away is today.

China unveils world’s 1st meltdown-proof nuclear reactor with 105 MW capacity

And since you brought politics in to this, does the big guy gets his 10%?

Again, you sink to new depths to try to put works in my mouth!

NOTHING will happen until politicians get behind nukes.

You are sick!

What is the purpose of this thread - skepticism, AI, superconductivity, nukes, Palo Verde, oligarchs, or politics?

With whoever is in charge now, nukes could be 20 minutes away.

Depends on your answer… if you point out the hypocrisy, you get slammed. Or in your case, voted your comment off topic. A textbook case of

You need to consider the history with the member and their issues. Unfortunately,… it’s Nov. 8, 2016 all over again.

The advances in nuclear energy is fast developing. In all different areas, from designing it to different processes (from my earlier post where Lyn had a relapse)

I’m sure in weapons also… if that ever came about, I don’t believe it will be large scale. But smaller tactical weapons with the exception of the Middle East.

hard to say about the other bs that you asked about. Yes, they are tied together as a player.

One must receive and accept these things with caution. It's still a fair distance to the far edge of the woodland.

Re: A Major Milestone: Global Climate Pollution May Have Just Peaked

07/27/2024 12:19 PM

..." What percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere is man-made?

Depending on the estimates anywhere from 3.6% to 5%. Considering the latest data CO2 content is 417 parts per million. That means human emissions are anywhere from 15 to 21 parts per million. If we subtract that from the total (as if we stopped ALL carbon dioxide emissions, which is impossible) we would reduce carbon dioxide content to 394 to 402 parts per million."...

..."The concentration of CO2 in the air is slightly higher in the northern hemisphere and is about 0.041%. This varies between summer and winter. Most of the landmass of the Earth is in the northern hemisphere which has the most population, the most industry, transport and virtually all the deciduous trees.

So what happens is that in spring as leaves begin to form, they absorb CO2 from the air, reducing the concentration slightly. In addition, people cut down on home and building heating which also reduces CO2 emissions.

In the southern hemisphere, there is less home heating because the countries with big populations like Brazil are mostly tropical so do not use much heating. The same is true of much of Australia and countries in Africa. Because of the mostly tropical and subtropical climate, trees and other plants are mostly evergreen. For instance, there is only one deciduous tree native to Australia and it is in Tasmania. So the concentration of carbon dioxide is slightly lower in the southern hemisphere and is less variable at about 0.0400%.

The approximate composition of dry air is -

  • 78.1% nitrogen
  • 20.93% oxygen
  • 0.94% argon
  • 0.04% CO2
  • other gases in trace amounts"...

https://www.quora.com/What-percentage-of-CO2-in-the-atmosphere-is-man-made?no_redirect=1

So we humans produced about 4% of 0.04% of the CO2 in the atmosphere...? Is that right? Sounds rather miniscule...

Every time I've seen a report on this it's emissions are still rising. But it could be true;

Well that's a relief - way better news than 'getting hotter' after last year's bathtub temperatures off Florida.

Sea surface temperatures have major effects on weather, especially hurricanes. The overall temperatures are doubtless continuing to rise, except where glacial melt is cooling it.

Last time I looked at the SST anomaly chart, the gulf and southern atlantic is pretty close to normals, only about one degree warmer for most of it, while the 5+ degree anomaly is around my area in the north atlantic.

Yup, some areas are even just below normal.

Not sure about the link but the maps are updated regularly here:

What is bothersome, is no one really knows why… is it a trend, temporary glitch or just an anomaly,

what it does do,… it does silence some of the members here… at least for a little while..

I couldn't disagree with you more, about wanting people silenced. Especially on a place like CR4. We're supposed to be digging for the best answers to our questions. If you want people to be accountable for their opinions fine. Lets look at the data, the facts and so on, and come to a reasonable conclusion. If somebody wants silence, I would say turn off your computer for awhile until you feel differently.

Well for one thing they don’t have data to find the reason why.

as far as silence… it’s when they spout their political bs..that’s when I push back with the anti political bs.

it be quiet for quiet some time after repeated political melt downs from certain members. And since then contributions have been more meaningful for discussions.

Re: A Major Milestone: Global Climate Pollution May Have Just Peaked

Yeah what a number of things leave me just drawing a blank. I don't know, even the experts don't know, so how would I know.

The SST cooling is one example, but how about the 2023 heat anomaly! I read a quote from a scientist at NASA today, saying that they are unable to explain more than half of it.

I do regularly read whatever they are putting out about the climate science, even though it's obviously a struggle to model climate. Seriously our weather modeling alone is a huge challenge and it doesn't seem to be getting better. It's highly complex and we don't have the math to nail it, I figure. So regarding the models, which are always inadequate, studies that find they were too conservative, that changes are happening faster than expected, are really very common.

So it's not that nothing is happening, it's more that we don't have a handle on what is happening or how fast. And the tipping points are freakish. We don't really know when we might hit one of those, or what will really happen and how fast.

I with you on that… I’ll read those also, and then question what did I just read… they could have summed it up with ‘we don’t know why’….

I'm sure they’ll find something that cause it… and it may just be a fluke or something…
