Solid waste disposal from Petroleum Refinery

01/12/2008 12:33 PM

Landfill is often recommended as an option for disposal of solid waste, generated in Petroleum Refinery. When land availability is a constraint, please advise what are the other options for Solid waste disposal,to meet environmental standards?

Something that has been mentioned in science fiction novels is getting it into the Earth's mantle. Melting everything and having a volcano spit it back up

Every Refinery should already have been forced to run a Gasifier(Oxygen-not air).

Now they are killing all of India's waters/waterlife by dumping onto rivers what they do not know how to get rid of.

India's Central /State Pollution Control Boards are farce!Their Standards!!!

All of what are called solid wastes, from the refining of petroleum, are actually now able to be used, in making industrial building or road building products of enormous value. Therefore,I recommend that you write to dr.manly@international-planners.com and ask him to assist your company in the development of the more than 20 products, which can be made, from the solid and gasious wastes, common to petroleum refining.

First you must characterize the waste--what is it, which unit(s) generate it, does it come from tank cleaning, is it always the same composition, or does it vary a lot, etc. The actual composition and variability thereof are key parameters in determining ultimate utilization potential.

Disposal of catalyst fines from the FCCU is much easier than sludge from tank cleaning.

Nothing need go to haz waste landfill.

I agree. Not all wastes are the same, but virtually all can be disposed of cost effectively without going the landfill route. Please be more specific which waste products you are trying to dispose of.

Try high pressure steam reforming, it converts the carbon to carbon dioxide and releases the hydrogen from water. It can also produce methane and with right catalysts make methanol, ethanol, and other useful carbon compounds. There is also a similar method, too, given already, pyrolysis, but producing only CO2.

What is its calorific value: could it be used as fuel?
