One of the things to consider is what happens when there is no flow. Does the strained debris fall back down the pipe and mangle the components in a pump the next time it is started, for example?

Just because something could be done doesn't mean that it should be done......

I agree with Ducon.

Anyway I think our guest has the minimum amount of common sense to install the Y type strainer in the correct position. Even in horizontal piping you can install it with the non-alineated leg in the upper side!!!!

Ancient romans said "numerus stultorum infinitus est" and transfinite numbers theory wasn't developped by Kantor at that time.

I agree yours that Y-strainer can be installed in a vertical or horizontal position, but at horizontal position the non-alienated leg can not be oriented in the upper side, it must be at lower side.

Because of that I used the word "can" and not "must". Obviously, you "can" but you must not. And for the same reason I give some credit to the intelligence of our guest. I'm tired of seeing how some CR4 people treat guests as if they were stupid.

Sometimes you can use Tee-type strainer in a vertical line.

Tee>>>wn-flange with blindflange. V-shaped strainer.

i give a thought about the position, i think the position is depends to the flow, if the flow is going down, it is applicable. but if a vertical pipe line with upward flow, then the y strainer is not suitable there.is it right?
