Pressure Tank Not Holding a Prime

01/27/2008 8:34 PM

is my pressure tank at fault for not holding a prime. the pump and pressure switch are new. does cold weather have anything to do with this loss? my water system was working for awhile until my wife washed some clothes and than the system went to zero on the pressure switch.

Do you experience load shedding?

Is the pump running?

Running - If the pump looses prime you must check the water supply and the suction side for leaks.

Not running - The sensor switches may have to be adjusted. Check the trip switch.

Contact the suppliers and report back to CR4 on the status or detailed questions.

Note a washing machine may cause excessive switching if sensors are not set properly.

Has the supply pipe frozen up?

Yes it could be the loss of air in tank. Old tanks just had air pumped in to them. Newer tanks have a bladder. In replacement of the pump and pressure switch you would have to have reset these pressures. They could be to high or to low. All so some tanks have a level switch. A too high of pressure on the air bladder can cause the water to drop below the switch level. Shutting down the pump to protect it if the well ran dry.
