No I haven't got a design for you.

When I eventually have to use a wheelchair I would want to be independent. For example I want to be able to change the light bulb in the roof light.

Go and rent yourselves a chair and use it. Have a look at anything you can improve.

You ask for a suggestion related to the design of a wheel chair.

Here it is:

First you look at a chair and take all dimensions of it

second you compute the profiles you need considering a dynamic factor of 2..3 and a person weight of up to 1500 N.

third you choose the wheels For it you look in a book about ergonomics where you will find the dimensions of the human body. Do not forget to consider for which part of the world the chair is thought since dimensions are not the same all over the world.

forth you decide if you want the chair motorized or not if yes you make the choice for the batteries and the controls (joy stick aso)

fifth you look at your design and decide if it is good or bad and why and if required you correct it.

sixth you present your project

Those are my suggestions for such a project.

If you're going to design a wheelchair, don't ask here. Ask people who use wheelchairs. Then rent a wheelchair and use it for a week - really use it. Then go back and ask the other users a second time.

My WONDERCHAIR - first near- perfect cushionless seat for all humanity=3Kg max.

Adapt that with wheel/brake/controls.
