pressure drop....

02/29/2008 11:55 AM

how to calculate the pressure drop when a particular gas (not liquid in opposite direction)is passing through the packed bed of cylindrical column .plez give me in mathematical form.or tell me the source to get the formula.we r passing air through the zeolite (5A size)chamber.

and tell me related formulas to fix the length and dia. of the chamber.

Sounds like a column chromatography process, is this correct?

sorry sir, basically i'm not from chemistry back ground.i don't know about chromatography process.i'm from mechanical engg. stream.in our project we r using a chamber of zeolite through which air is passing.we don't know how to calculate the pressure drop across this chamber.could u tel me ,is there any formula available to calculate this in chromatography process. In a particular hand book of chemical engineering there is a formula in a situation where liquid and gas r passing throu' the chamber in opposite direction.

I also have a ME background

I was working with people that did this about 10 years ago, alot of it was propritary information, but was was able to gather some information while I was researching, I'll see what I can get and email it.

If you don't hear from me in a few days. rattle my cage.

The information that I had was empirical info derived from customers data. Unfortunately its not my data to distribute.

Sorry, If I do see information that was not derive empirically, I will pass it on.

Have a look in Perry - "Chemical Engineers' Handbook", any edition, looking for countercurrent mass transfer in packed columns.
