Robotic Dog

This is truly amazing.

I read that is was paid for by the DOD to carry supplies for troops. I think a real dog would be a lot cheaper, and you'd have to carry kibble instead of gasoline. It doesn't look to cuddly ether.

I saw that video a couple of days ago and thought that it was pretty neat.

This version loaded much more quickly for me:

The robotic dog has a number of advantages over a real dog -

  • Higher capacity - real dogs can only safely carry ~10 - 20% of their body weight
  • won't get scared in potential combat situations
  • doesn't need to sleep
  • no training required, every big dog model should act the same

But I have to agree with you, it doesn't seem like it would be a good cuddler.

Ya, my real dogs can do a whole lot better than that thing. The bricks, it would take my girls about a 1/2 second to get past that. Then, when they were done, they would lick you, in a non sexual kind of way.

Noisy bugger isn't it! Not exactly the dog to go hunting with!

Only practical advantages I can think of are that this can fly unpressurised and can be switched off when not in use. Oh, and as we have already won the war (!) and are now trying to win hearts and minds, we wouldn't want our militaries getting even wilder with anger when their defenceless doggy-friend got shot up, now, would we?
