Excavation on the Moon

04/07/2008 5:40 AM

About a year ago I saw an article that offered a cash prize for the best design to excavate soils on the moon.

I wondered if anyone else saw the article .

I thought it was an interesting challenge I had some ideas of my own.

What power supplies are available, or do they have to be integrated into the launching mechanism?

Just thinking along the lines of those thrill rides at Theme parks, where you accel then go up a ramp, then free fall back.

Yeah, I did that too. It got me here:

http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn11846-no-one-scoops-the-prize-at-moon-digger-contest.html

That the right one?

(I think this is what they wanted, some folks don't Google well I guess...)

Hey, don't feel bad about that - most people need 10 fingers to type with...if you can do the same job with 20% of the equipment, you're way ahead!

some folks don't Google well I guess...

Do they make pills for that? I've been thinking that my company, Consolidated Gookumpucky, should start producing the binders used in pills. We could also make sealants suitable for the lunar environment.

I smell !

"Consolidated Gookumpucky"

I knew that was your outfit! Say:

"...should start producing the binders used in pills. We could also make sealants suitable for the lunar environment..."

Play the chemical structures just right, and this could be just one product with multiple uses. After all, pills that fix the "doesn't Google well with others" syndrome will need to be very slow release over considerable time, thus highly stable binders will be required. Sealants suitable for Lunar use would almost be that durable, but a little overkill there couldn't hurt...

My Granddad used to swear by (and occasionally AT) several of your products...

I thought it was a real contract coming out.

Do they accept simulated tenders?

This is a drill, this is a drill, this is only a drill. Had this been a real life, you would have received further instructions on where to go and what to do. ©
