Information Regarding Cool Plate for Car

07/06/2006 12:53 PM

Hi guys, Can you tell me sites in the internet where I can get information regarding cool plates for car hybrid? Or can you give me information on what factors to be considered in designing cool plates for cars? I have this project of creating a cool plate but I just don't have an idea on the specs of the cool plate. The material to be used is aluminum... I've seen cool plates in cars but I don't know what areas to be considered on the the dimensions of crest and through and the thickness of the cool plate.

Look at BRodda post about a 100 lb heat sink. Go from there. By the way, just out of curiosity, how do you, ". . . have this project of creating a cool plate," if you, ". . . just don't have an idea on the specs of the cool plate?"

I assume that your 'cool plate' refers to a Peltier Effect device. Most are arrays, because a single junction uses a lot of current at very low DC voltage. In a Hybrid vehicle, this would reduce your milage!

I personally had an idea of using the exhaust gas temp as a heat source, regenerating some energy from heat sinking the pipes through a peltier array. I'm not sure how much energy it would have generated, maybe 2kw at best, but seems cost ineffective.
When talking to a generator engineer, he said that steam-turbine is most common efficiency improver for industrial applications. Just my $0.02
