Strange Flashes and Explosions in Baltimore

04/29/2008 3:34 PM

Over the better part of the last year, a neighborhood in the Pikesville area of Baltimore has been experiencing loud booms and flashes. The phenomena occurs are random intervals, but always taking place between midnight and 7 AM, apparently 30 to 40 feet in the air in the parking lot between the Beth Tfiloh Community School and the Stevenson Commons condominiums building.

Check out the video. Any idea what it could be? All of the power equipment in the neighborhood seems to be functioning correctly and there have been no meteorological explanations.

I think it's a prankster. I know if I lived there, I'd run right to the blast site and look and smell. None of the photo's posted show the source of the flash. I'm not an explosive expert, but I believe you could make a charge that would leave no trace of it's nature. It just seem to bazaar to be a natural event.

News flash they arrested a man for it. Caught the light flashes coming from the windows of his home. They have not released what he was doing to cause the explosions.

If he was doing it in his home and it made that much noise and put off that much light outside. I wonder what it was like inside.

I'm guessing it's 50:50 chance at best that they have released his picture? "Sounds" as if the boom was artificial...probably including low freqency amplification for a super (I won't say it) Boom Box effect. Now you've got me thinking: an attempt to terror bust the neighborhood. There's been controversy about housing in Pikesville area going on for many years.

The guy that they arrested was pissed at a neighbor was setting off pyrotechnics.

Something tells me that acetylene gas might be involved.

With all the military installations around the Baltimore and Washington DC areas, I wouldn't be surprised if he was using military pyrotechnics. Probably not flares, but grenade simulators. Even if he's not using military pyros, I'd say the chances are good that he has some experience handling them. If he's making his own, or using someone else's homemade devices, they probably are based on military pyros.

So there's no truth in the rumour that it is 'vermin' playing with his explosives, then?

Boom and flash is suggestive of a firework, which kinda supports the prankster notion someone else mentioned.

Pikesville in Baltimore County--Baltimore (City), MD, though surrounded by it, is not part of Baltimore County and does not have concurrent jurisdiction--is noted as an area of predominant Jewish residency; so there could be some kind of celebratory (or first/second coming?) thing going on.

Many years ago, a nearby motor hotel just next to the beltway on Reisterstown Bvd which is the main corridor through Pikesville gained local notoriety when a group of wives who had acquired ownership interest in facility were found to be augmenting revenue by using it as a cat house--even participating the the pleasure for profit aspects. The local synagogue would be an ideal place to meet, arrange the schedule, and designate congregants for the nightly settings off a boom and flash in order to alert husband to check that their wives (and wives whose husbands are off to war) are safely at home. This could further explain why police are still "unable" to explain what's been happening.

Or this could be a oneupmanship attempt by someone to start a new, mysteriously unexplained tradition of the sort for which Baltimore City has gained fame. One in particular that comes to mind is the wee-hours, mysterious annual placing, undetected and without fail, by some (assumed to be) person, of flowers and new bottle of (if I remember it was) Cognac on the grave of Edgar Poe on the exact day of the anniversary of his birth.Wine and roses

There's also a guard armory close by. Maybe civil defense exercises?

Or maybe just someone of "Baltimoreon" mentality trying to start a meth lab but, try as he may, he just can't seem to get it right.

Finally, on more sinister note, a sleep disturbing attempt to bust the neighborhood.

There are so many people experimenting now with electrolytic hydrogen and oxygen generation but only a few know how to store and use safely.

So this guy may be the exception: filling a paper bag or a baloon - 2 gallons will be very dangerous for him if mixed and not survivable if very nearby.

As the explosions continue he or she certainly has some experience.

As a boy we tried similar things with any type of chemical stuff we could get .

I would try today if I have to do this and get the insurance right and the press informed to pay a lot:
Filling a balloon with H2 and O2 mixture.
Balloon secured to a remote place.
Ignite with one of these high intensity light or microwave sources that can easily start the reaction. (Military types in storage everywhere.)
Try a reflector to avoid deafening?

I can think of some other possibilities but these would be much more dangerous to the actor.

Clearly this so-called "resolution" to the issue is just a hastily-concocted cover story. A prankster indeed. How gullible do they think we are???

It's obvious to all that this is a case of an unsecured interdimentional portal slamming shut from causality pressure differentials that occur during the evening shifts in the Winds of Fate. It happens all the time ("time" of course being a meaningless term in cross-dimentional activity).

You have untrained and occasinally unhinged travelers who get so excited at the prospect of venturing to another realm and partaking of the wonderful local bargains and/or mutilations and they get sloppy. Come on...it's just good manners to lock down the portal behind you, people! ("people" of course being a meaningless term in cross-dimentional activity).

The look and sound is just like a REPORT used in fireworks. They are the fireworks that are essentially just a flash/bang. Maybe he has access to flash/bang grenades?

Loud bangs and flashes without any evidence, the only thing that comes to mind is a cloud seeding gun? some prankster. Had much rain there lately.
