How does the transistor amplify the signal?

Which transistor?

there are many different ways a transistor can amplify a signal, current, voltage and power amplification for example?

When you take a signal and make it larger, that is amplification and is what a transistor is capable of.

Think of a bi-polar transistor as a pilot-operated valve. A little energy goes into operating the pilot mechanism which controls (semi-linearly) the amount of water (for example) that the main body of the valve allows to pass.

Other types of transistors work similarly by different physical mechanisms/processes.
