Is Human nature so shallow that this causes violence?

This picture has been causing considerable stink overseas. The locals have banned the news paper and the local religious leaders are calling for more sanctions.

In my most fair heart of hearts I can see the same resultant actions being performed here in the good ol US of A and the UK with our known religious leaders.

But to start a fair discussion ol JC was a rebel and was quite anti the established local "Authority" So to keep a fair perspective on the thought, might not he be wearing "Peace symbolic from the 60's and the beer would be a Microbrew"?

Just from a human perspective the picture is not quite right.

What do you think?

Jesus drank wine, and may have had something like beer too. Given his middle east location, I would not be suprised if he shared a water pipe with his followers as well, so I am not too sure what the fuss is about.......

On the other hand the basic picture is a Roman Catholic icon, and this is basically disrespectful to them. Not sure why you would do that unless you are just trying to make people mad...

"Just from a human perspective the picture is not quite right."

You are correct. That should be a glass of wine in his left hand.

This propensity for violence is so huge:

The picture and the blog it was stolen from have devout Christians putting Death and Violence in their answers to this affront.

The same things are happening to those who express even the slightest desires for Diplomatic answers to the worlds problems instead of the incredibal levels of violence of today.

This Religious Icon has the same effect as wishing for Peace in the MiddleEast. If you wish for Peace instead of killing you are greated with distrust and outright hate.

As a faithful follower of the "Peace and Freedom" of the 60's, the forgotten bit in "Lets Talk" is completly hidden. That is so much better than, kill them because they are different from us.n

Why is this the standard responce today???

"Why is this the standard response today???"

That is a good question, but I think that goes far beyond this little incident. People have always been "touchy" about their sacred ideas. And while I think that Steve_S has a valid point that it is intentionally inflammatory, I can't justify the response. Someone else's belief or dis-belief doesn't really affect me does it.

As far as why this unbalanced type of response is so common, I have my own theories about that point.

For me that is one of the points:

To believe in freedom of expression as a standard right of Human existance, seeing ones spiritual icons in an relaxed pose should be refreshing. For an example Kirshna the Indian God is portrayed doing many quite human activities, and enjoying them. Indians seem to have no troubles with their Gods activities of any kind.

Yet this Christian icon doing quite the same kind of human activities incites people to violence. A possible partial answer to me is that somehow violence is taught as part of the belief?

From where stems the required answer to include violence????

Guess I offended folks:

Did not want to do that even the slightest. Was only seeking enlightenment through discussion.

Sorry about that

Sincerely,

You'd have thought more people would have been upset that you showed Jesus as a long-haired Scot.

Human nature is protective against ideas and icons dear to them and hotheads in that group may/will turn to violence.

A while ago there was a caricature of somebody with a bomb or grenade tied to his head and. . . Some went violent, did they not?

All the members of CR4 believe in something, vote or support a political party or idea, prefer a make or type of vehicle, drink, food, toothpaste, vice, has a my space around him/her or whatever good/bad and nobody would like to be ridiculed for doing so.

Finally, I am addicted to CR4 and would not want anyone to jeopardise the status of the site by offending some.

Maybe I should start with myself and stop handing out GOOZ cards.

Although I am personally religious, I am not very pious and am not really offended by much. But others may be. I try to stay away from non-engineering topics that trespass too much on other cultures.
