Shatter proof plastic

08/14/2008 7:15 PM

I am looking for a light weight and inexpensive shatter proof plastic. The plastic needs to look like glass.

No it's downright cheap compared to gasoline.

Lexan is more expensive than the more common plastics like HDPE, nylon and polypropylene, but cheaper than others that are sold. Another excellent source for plastic is www.usplastic.com. By comparing properties and [rices, you will find the correct plastic you need. There are dozens to choose from.

That sounds great. Onto another product. I am looking for a malleable plastic, similiar to the craft foam that children use for projects, but has more strength than the craft foam. I need to be able to pierce it with a straight pin without tearing. Approximate thickness needed is 1/16 inch. I have looked at tyvek but it is more like cloth. I will also post this question under a new title.

Thank you

Impact-resistant safety glasses are made from polycarbonate.

You have two options:

1. Polycarbonate AKA: LEXAN

2. Polyacetal: Slightly inexpensive when compared to Lexan

Price depends on what they load this plastoc with. Usually they use pigments to alter the properties and also to lower the price. Try to google and findout what you need and what is available
