Hello sirlburr

I have allowed for a squirrel-cage synchronous type electric motor. (Other types may be different, and until you advise what type of motor you have, that's the best advice)

It does not matter whether the 3-phase motor is star connected or Delta connected, the method is the same:

Change over (swap) two of the winding connections, connect the motor, and it rotates in the other direction.

Kind Regards....

hi, assuming you already mount the motor to the field, and cable connect from substation or distribution panel, if the rotation of the motor is cw and you want ccw, thing to be done you just swap you core cable(1) yelow & blue, if yellow connected to U1 and blue connected to V1, then you reverse connection.

Assume you have three electical conections to supply the power to the motor. Change two of electrical connections in and the rotation will be as per your wish.

If the motor is a star-delta type, then there will be two sets of phase wires. To reverse a star-delta-wired motor in the field, swap the same two of the phase wires on both sets of wires.

PWS why not just swap the in coming power conductors rather then mess around in the motor. pac

The reason for swapping motor leads is simple:

  • not all motors are wound exactly alike.
  • depending on what else is in the same branch it's easier to reverse 1 vs. many

Silburr,

These are very basic questions in your numerous posts! If you do not possess this very basic understanding of electricity, PLEASE enroll in an apprenticeship or tech school befrore you take the chance on getting yourself hurt or hurting others.
