Hello kumarzell

You have not listed your Location or Country, (Do that in your Member Profile and it will update automatically through all your Posts), and that may have a bearing on a supplier for you.

Just a thought about digital readouts:

The optical perception of all persons is designed to quickly recognise analogue signals - those of size and angle.

When a person views a digital readout, the brain has to convert that reading into digital form, for processing.

Proof of this is extensive - note that aircraft use analogue rather than digital readouts, for critical instruments.

Kitsets were available some 20 years ago, to install and set up digital speedometers for cars.

What are you intending for the odometer, because that is needed also, if you don't intend using the speedo cable.

Meanwhile, please refer: http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_101589/article.html

If you want a kitset, please refer:http://www.jorgans.com/Kitsets_page_1/kitsets_page_1.html

Look for the: JK28 Car Digital Speedometer with Speed Alert AU$75 - This is a "Silicon Chip" magazine designed kitset.

Kind Regards....

Apologies for my error in the above post.

I was away for an hour, leaving my auto-poster in charge, and on my return discovered the error.

<"....When a person views a digital readout, the brain has to convert that reading into digital form, for processing.....">

Should read: When a person views a digital readout, the brain has to convert that reading into analogue form, for processing.

Shucks, no intervening reader noticed the error, or if they did, were far too polite to say.

Kind Regards....

A GPS can do it for you.

A Garmin nuvi 700 does it, It sucks onto the windshield and can be plugged into the cigarette lighter plug, You can also run it off its internal rechargeable batteries for a limited time.

The accuracy is good.

I agree 100% with Hendrick. My speedo failed on my jeep and I picked up a Lowrance GPS. It works great, is very accurate and actually fun to tinker with.

For under $200 and 10 minutes you are set up.

Mike

If the vehicle has ABS brakes there are sensors that monitor the wheel speed for braking sent to the ABS controller.

If your car has an OBDII port (any car from 1996 or so) then a Scan Gauge 2 will give you speed data. The display is small, however, and not something you would want to rely upon for routine use as your only speedometer. The Scan Gauge 2 gives you loads of other data too, and works as a trip computer.

My prototype vehicle has a digital speedometer from a bicycle. The magnet can be mounted to anything that turns with the wheels, and the device can be easily calibrated. $9.95 at Wal Mart. (The wire from pickup to computer needs to be extended, but this is easily done, and does not affect accuracy.)

And, as others have said, GPS works well.
