Firefox Problems

11/21/2008 9:07 AM

Hi Everyone -

I have been a big fan of Firefox for awhile now, but this week I've done nothing but fight it. It seems as though whenever I click the "back" button, it opens a new tab with the same page that I was already looking at. Also, when I've been clicking back and forth between tabs, it has been closing them as soon as I click them.

I haven't downloaded anything suspicious, and I don't use any add-ons that would interfere like this. Please help!

Much thanks,
-Sharkles

I just checked mine and it's okay. Must be on your end.

I was, but I was so fed-up that I downgraded to 2.0 (literally less than 10 minutes ago).

Unfortunately, no. I went back to 2.0 for a bit, but I was having the same problem so I switched back to the latest version. I am starting to think that the only solution is to completely uninstall and start from scratch...but I'd rather try and figure out if I was the one who caused it or not first. If I can't figure anything out by the end of the day then I might do that.

If you have XP go to accessories, system tools, then to system restore. Try to see if you can roll back your Windows to a time before you had the problem.

That is how I solved a problem that I had with Firefox. I was watching a video and my browser window froze and trying to unfreeze it, I did something that made Firefox shut down. I lost the ability to see some Google gadgets and some Google apps were not working properly. I couldn't tell what I did to cause this problem.

Try Internet Explorer see if you have the same problem with the back button. May not be FoxFire.

Did you install SP3 or some or other upgrade?

After installing SP3 my Delphi driver for a CNC did not work.

My IE also played tricks on me.

I am now using Firefox on a Linux Asus 7¨ (with an external LCD screen) for internet,

I am still getting used to Firefox and keep on closing the wrong tabs.

Your problem is that you have been listening to idiots. Dump that porus piece of shit called fifefox and install IE or Google chrome.

I had that same trouble the very first time I used FF.

The simple answer is go back to IE

I used FF, also used it for evaluating XHTML-code on my website. Thus I figured out that FF even does not comply with XHTML-standards!!

I'm a big fan of alternative software projects, but FF has turned out to be a big disappointment. Better go back to IE, Safari or Opera.

FF is not as secure as Mozilla pretends. Take a feed from on www.securiteam.com or something similar. You'll be amazed...

Re: Firefox Problems

Apparently, this problem originated with the latest automatic update of Firefox, and affects both the 3.* and the 2.* versions. A common complaint appears to be an incompatibility with hotmail, and video applications. Reverting to an older version either in the 3.* or 2.* series seems to solve the problem. There is a thread on the Mozilla website relating to this that offers directions to getting older versions of Firefox that seem to be still working. Apparently, Mozilla has not reacted to the complaints so far.

Go to Tools, then Add Ons, then disable the Real Player browser record plug in.

Restart Fire Fox

I found this recommendation from a comment here

http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=en-US&forumId=1&comments_parentId=206496

to prevent the incompatablity with hotmail and google gadgets and some widgets.

This worked for me after an udpate caused problems.

Might be better to download the new browser before uninstalling the old one.

Looks like lots of people are having headaches with 3.04 :

http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=en-US&forumId=1&comments_threshold=0&comments_parentId=206491&comments_offset=20&comments_per_page=20&thread_style=commentStyle_plain

Fix seems to be to revert to 3.03 : ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.0.3/win32/en-US/

(Link is swamped right now)

Cool, thanks. For some reason, I haven't been having as much trouble this week.

I had also been having trouble with FF at home this weekend, and temporarily switched to IE - but I can't get myself to like that browser. But miraculously, everything seems normal there now too. I don't know who or what happened, but *knocks on wood* it seems to be working ok now.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
