Forget the economic meltdown. Don't worry about a missile standoff in Poland. The real threat to our way of life is the remake of classic movies. I just saw an ad for a remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Is nothing sacred? Are there no timeless values? They don't even have an actor listed for Gort.
Other covers that I can think of that couldn't hold a candle to the original are Clint Eastwood's Pale Horse, Pale Rider remake of Shane, the second best western ever made. And, of course, the remake of The Lady Vanishes. Cybil Shepherd may have been OK but how could you ever replace Naunton Wayne and Basil Radford?
What are your favorite classics that have been ruined by Hollywood?
