A girl...a girl...there's a girl on the forum....don't panic...smarten up quick.

But seriously, it's not my field (I'm a cat afterall!) But hopefully someone here will point you in the right direction.
My advice is always try to get experience before further qualifictions.
The common perception is that too many people leave university/college not knowing which end of the soldering iron to pick up.

Good luck and nice to have you onboard.

Hi,

I donno which part of the world you are in ..

Dont worry, if your interest is to pursue a career in Process Control Instrumentation, as others have mentioned you must be working in the Plant for quite some time, so that you come to know the knitty gritties of maintaining a C&I System.

My advise to you is to spend your formative years, say 1 to 2 years in a running plant, you could fit into the maintenance planning dept. or a Central Maintenance section of a big plant, where all Instruments from field are brought for refurbishing / repairs etc., so that your visits to plant per say is minimised.

Pick up strings from there, switch to a EPC-Engineering Procurement Construction Company and keep doing Engineering & Procurement activities. You can do really well this way ...

All the best!!

Regds.

Hi there,

You have studied the wrong field if you want to work in the office for C&I. Part of your job will consist of comissioning your designs and finding any mistakes that you have made.

The best way to lear C&I is practically - this means site work.

Forget about advanced courses until you have managed to apply what you have already learnt and you really have a good understanding of the basics. From experience this will take you a 2 - 4 years.

I would advise you to join an engineering firm ASAP and start as a junior engineer. You would be exposed to the workings of projects as well as gain experience from the older engineers. C&I is very challenging in itself - so good luck.

Regards,

Craig

hi

If you want to work in office so must find job in engineering company this will limit your contact with field job

Of course during Engineering phases you may need to visit sites but it will not your mean job like if you work in maintenance or operation in certain plant

about courses I think you shall wait until you know about your job natural or core

but if are interested in engineering jobs you must be patient because you will need to read a lot especially standards and cods

best regards

I've worked with a few girls in my field (Instrumentation and Control) but all of them were fieldmen..er, girls.

As far as I know, there's no such thing as a pure desk job in our profession. You may sit at your desk for a while but visits to the plant floor are necessary. If you're in projects, you start out working at a desk designing the system and then out in the field when it's time to install it.

I've also known other girls in our profession who chose desk jobs over fieldwork. They ended up as secretaries or gofers. If that's what you want, go for it.

regards,

Vulcan

PLC programming doesn't seem to be a requirement for Site Coordinator but, then again, we don't live in the same country.

For starters, this is what I would advise:

  1. Be at the venue early.
  2. Speak clearly and answer the questions truthfully.
  3. Dress semi-formally or in business attire.

One thing I really like when it comes to interviewees is that they have confidence and communicate clearly. For a site coordinator, communication is very important (well, for most jobs, communication is important). If you're also a very organized person, try to show that as well.

regards,

Vulcan

Simply apply for jobs that are appealing using the qualifications on-board. Most jobs require a breadth of knowledge and experience and some, though not all, can be acquired along the way. Consider what aspects other than simply a BE in Instrumentation and Control can be brought to the party.

Congratulation . The best advice i can give you is to join as System & sales engineer with any Company dealing in Instrumentation & Controls. Forbes-Marshall a good place to start or similar Distributors for: Fisher/Rockwell/ etc.Once you join any Company like this they will give you in-house training and books of their manufacturers to study. You will also come across selection of instruments from their previous case files. This place will condition you to improve your system selection on case to case basis. You can then opt to visit the site to see the system whenever the need arise. You will then telling the panel-guys how you want the system and trail checking on test bench that they work as per your system design. Within 2 years you will be an excellent because of your strong equipment-selection background learnt during this period.

What r u saying? if u r a girl! so what? Now a days women are everywhere, they r doing jobs better than men.

Be positive and need to be proud, u r a C&I (Control and Instrumentation) girl.

One more thing I want to tell u, I am working in SHI (Samsung Heavy Industries), India and my boss is a Lady, she is very dynamic n very nice lady.

If u r a fresher, I think u need to give walk-in-interviews in Design Engineering sector, there are so many design engineering companies in Power, Oil & Gas sectors. Meny Design Engineering Companies now at times recruiting freshers as a GET (Graduate Engineer Trainee), so you no need to go any site or plant and just u can do your job in office only. They will give u training.

are u clear?? All the best n take care...cheers
