DWT, you would promply fly the thing into a tree, even if you were in the Sahara.

I, on the other hand, would crash into the first, building, lake, windmill, mailbox, curbstone, etc, that I came across.

Funny you should mention a spud gun, I designed one that would fire like a Gatling gun, propane powered and motor driven. I can lay down more spuds per minute than is possibly useful for anyone. Yes too much time on my hands...

hadn't seen that one, mine is an auto loader, keeps firing as long as it gets a feed.

Stand mounted, BBQ propane tank, large hopper, it will fire until it empties or you let go of the trigger. It has a two stage feeder, first stage cuts the spud to fit the berrel and when the next spud is fed it pushes the first into the rotating magazine.

I guess eventually one would be buried in Spud skins...

Hey DWT,

Modify your design slightly and you have invented the perfect mass french fry maker!

I'll bet you could sell them for the show of it to folks with large crowds to feed at games or carnivals.

I could add a microwave cooker to the chamber and a course screen at the chamber end of the barrel, might get nasty though...

I see a great potential for disaster in this. If we didn't hit any AND all the things that Brick mentioned we would surely hit each other.

That's probably one of the reasons why it never came to market. Get this thing certified with the limitation that only children or little people are able to fly it, sounds like a nightmare to me. Great gadget though, wouldn't mind one like that myself

That's a whole lot more expensive than the gyrocopters being promoted in the States back in the '80's- but then, those gyrocopters were only powered by a 5 hp lawnmower motor...

There is another helicopter similar to this one but enclosed, it's called a "sparrowhawk" it should come up in a google search.

If you try to market it, the Department of transportation will require air bags, a guard over the rotors and other such safety devices so that it will be too heavy to fly. Problem solved.

The big problem I see here is that you are flying around with your arms in a very uncomfortable position. It might shorten the commute but it better be a very short commute to begin with.

I'll stick with my motorcycle, thanks!

Does it actually fly? I didn't see any tail rotor or counter-rotating top rotors, so the pilot's seat would spin like mad. Might make a fun fair ride, though.

Re: "Does it actually fly?"

Visit the manufacturer's HomePage for more... of course, we'll never be seeing swarms of these flying across the ocean, but, who will be the first one to try coercing money from "across-the-borderans" for a fun flight to the states?

Look again. It is an auto-gyro where the 2 rotors counter each others rotational force.

As a fixed-wing pilot, an ex-helicopter flight engineer and a motorcycle driver, I go into a galaxy class state of anxiety every time one one of these craft is displayed as the answer to commuting problems.

Most people have trouble maintaining control of their vehicles in 2D. How are they going to handle 3D?

Could we at least outlaw cell phones while feet are off the ground????

Gee, this looks like fun!

What I really wanted to see was a demo of the deployment of the ballistic parachute provided in case of the failure of all four engines.

Let's see... It burns about 5 gallons of gas per hour. I figure I could make about three round trip commutes on 5 gallons of gas -- assuming I don't stop off at the grocery or run some other errand. Five gallons of gas in my Hyundai Sonata gets me about 125 miles, or about 15 round trip commutes. Hmmm.

I wonder if stores are going to let me land this thing on roof tops and come in that way? If I have to land and park this thing in a regular parking lot, I foresee some problems...

Land where the accountants park. Do you have a problem with decapitating them?

FAA regs state that you can land a V/STOL aircraft anywhere you have the property owner's permission.

Caveat - many municipalities have used noise, public nuisance and other arcane laws to prosecute those who land aircraft even where they have permission.

Sometimes even after the fact...

I would fly one to work, as long as no one else does. Imagine conflicting flight paths with these swarming around like mosquitoes. Adds a further element to jousting for a parking space too.

May be a fun recreational toy. But I would still want a wind screen ........
