Vacuum Differential Switch - Terminology

chief,

what is the meaning of "reference fort" and "pressure port" on the vaccum diff. switch.

what is the port to be connect to the oil tank.

I would guess that the reference port should be connected to the top of the container and the preessure port would be connected to the bottom of a container where there would be pressure to measure.

Hi speedtron,

guest in post #2 is correct. The reference port is your "static" side. If measuring an atmospheric liquid height, this is ported to the atmosphere. If in a pressurized vessel however, this is ported to the headspace of the vessel.

The pressure port is plumbed to the bottom of the vessel, at or below where you want "zero" to be.

I would definitely agree with Mike, I see this all the time and it's surprising how many people hook it up wrong and blow out the shaft seal on there vacuum pump, pressure has to go somewhere.
