Searching for Simplest Solution - 4 Inputs and 11 Outputs

I want to run 11 different pumps and motors sequentially. my control signal(s) will comprise the output from a chip. I have four lines coming out, at any given time the signal from these four lines will be a binary code ( I know I can go to 16 but I only need 11) eg line 1 ,on line 2 off, line3, on represents 5 etc. output voltages on the lines are 1.8 to 0V and the current will be low mA. All suggestions most welcome.

Er, how about a small Programmable Logic Controller, available off the shelf?

I'd think a 4 to 16 line decoder chip should do the job

Cheers Del, great link to the chip, an off the shelf solution brilliant. All I need now is a switching circuit for each of my 11 devices (they are 24 V dc) So I think probably a transistor switch circuit and relay. (I dont know if there is a relay that will operate direct from that chip).

To help you understand a 4 to 16 line decoder

visualize 11 x 4 input AND gates for each wired directly or via a inverter to the 4 lines

The AND gate of output 1 must be wired directly to the LSB and the other 3 via inverters and will therefore only be on if line 1 is on and the other 3 is off.

The connection must be as follows

I=inverter D=direct

1 DIII

2 IDII

3 DDII

4 IIDI

5 DIDI

6 IDDI

7 DDDI

8 IIID

etc

Omron, Rockwell and others make Nano type PLC type controllers that are programable and fairly inexpensive (about $250) timers, ladder logic, counters, input screens and even analogue are almost always included. they have limited logic lines and memory but for simple aplications work very well. 24v DC outs are common, as well as triac, or 120 V AC relay. I prefer the Triac output driving a "Hockey Puck" for larger power or Corcam ODC output modules and boards for lower power ( up to 5 A). They work pretty slick and are easily reconfigurable as needed.

I didn't you question properly. Do you have 4 input wires to chip or 4 output wires from the chip? How the switching arrangement is there from the input side?

Hi, it was 4 outputs from a chip. (making 11 different binary numbers,

1 to 11 inclusive)

Can we change the output voltage? To switch on output relays(in better way), we requred at least 5V. Please check...

the voltage will be sufficient changing from 0V to 5V.

I'm using chipoutputs to switch transistors, then transistor outputs to switch relays.
