Guest,

Can you explain what you mean?

It would help if you could give us some small sliver of information about your, "temperature gauge"

We can't read your mind!

If it's a meat thermometer, stick it in boiling water. If it's close to 100C/212F

you are good.

if you would do some BASIC RESEARCH before you waste our time, it would be nice.

Never mind.......................................................................

GA, LL!

I too get irritated by how some people just don't have the sense to put themselves in the peoples minds that they are asking questions of. As I write my questions (and answers), I am continually reviewing how what I write will be perceived. How can someone NOT do that?

A prime example, and completely assho redneck to boot. So much entitlement attitude these days.

Hi Lynlynch,

Thanks for the response… So here it goes, let me rephrase the question. How to calibrate Bimetal Thermometers / Filled System Thermometers? Not the one used in kitchen…Should be the Temperature Gauges used in industrial plants. Thank you for your time.

Hi Edgar (what we're calling Guest these days!),

Is this what you're talking about?

I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Turbo 2.0L
My problem is: My Oil Temp and Gas needles are not calibrated correctly. The reason for that is, I recently installed a new gauge glow set. To do that I had to remove all gauge needles. It seems the problem is while the car is idoling, I put those 2 on and when you pull back on them, and they don't automatically come back like the others. There stiff. Meaning when I move one, it moves and stays in that position.
Question 1: Why don't the Oil temp and gas gauges pull back like the others?
Question 2: How do I solve this problem?

Location: Tualatin, OR
Please provide: (a) Things tried so far (b) Make of auto (c) Model (d) Year (e) Engine size (f) Automatic transmission?: I have tried turning on car reving up engine. Wait untill the car gets really hot. They just are stiff and wont pull back. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Turbo 2.0L Engine DOHC 2000 16 Valve Manual I DO NOT want to replace the whole gauge cluster or anything. I just want the 2 gauges i described to be working properly. Where can I go to get this problem fixed?

Don't be so rude..there's no such thing as stupid question...only stupid answers..

And I've been stupid for minutes..not for a lifetime..

Did some research about it..

Thanks anyway for all the help. Cheers!!

Calibration of Bimetallic Thermometers

These instruments are calibrated by comparing their responses to that of a standard thermometer in a constant temperature bath. The length of the bimetallic strip is simply adjusted so that the pointer registers the proper temperature.

Calibration of Filled-System Thermometers

Filled-system thermometers are calibrated by comparing their responses to that of a standard thermometer. The methods for calibrating liquid-in-glass thermometers and thermocouples can also be used to calibrate the filled-system thermometers.

Hint: at sea level:

  • A bucket of icy water.
  • A bucket of boiling water.

What happens next?

So if temperature is reading high, I add some cold water and if it is reading low I add some boiling water. But do I do high/low tide correction before or after?

hi

some times some where the sense which is common is missed

hot water keep one ref temp gage

cold put another ref temp gage

dip the temp gage first in hot water note the reading say ref is 75 your gage is 80

remove the gage hang in air to achieve rom temp say 30 your gage is 33

dip in cold wate say 10 your gage is say 11 than your gage error 1 deg zero and 4deg span error

i daoubt span canbe adjustable in temp.gage

if the error is tolerable ok or replace it.

pls don't mind .

regards

Adil

Ref ASME PTC 19.3 Chapter 09 (Sec 191-198) , to calibrate Bi Metalic Temperature Guage.
