My Nissan Micra 1.4 automatic, has developed an annoying resonant whine that seems to be road speed related. I was hoping that new tyres on the back might reduce it, but no joy. I've jacked up each corner and spun the back wheels, and driven each front one...cant locate it...no obvious exhaust leak, inlet seems ok, I even taped up the plastic air intake which was loose (thought it might be vibrating).
Hard to tell where it's coming from, sounds like the back...
It makes a noise like an electric train pulling away from a station...and it's driving me nuts.
I'm thinking maybe rear wheel bearing, or some horrible final drive noise. There is no play in wheels or steering. Applying the brakes or hand brake doesn't kill it, cornering doesn't effect it. Cloves of garlic on the dash are also ineffective.
And before anyone asks...no, it's not passenger squeal from Mrs Cat.
I'm loath to take it into a garage, as I don't think they are any smarter than me these days (that's not ego, that's just my experience with garages)
Any thoughts? Automatic transmissions are new to me, so whadda thing guys eh eh?
