Ah to be sure, you'd be wantin' to store it in the same country as the site.

Logical.

Working out where not to go on holiday was the driver for the question!

Here you (as a private citizen) can only store 5 litres of any type of fuel, as long as it is in a recognised and type approved container (the ones you buy a fuel stations). Dustbins are frowned upon (and their owners prosecuted).

I don't think you'd need an explosive licence...unless you're planning to blow it up? I think you only need the explosive licence for the detonators.

Try searching for "fuel tanks" and "bunding" and "fuel storage regulations". Try phoning your local council.....try not to ask questions for which you can easily search for the answer using google/bing/yahoo/Ask Jeeves/....try to include all relevant data in the question (like where in the world are you).

Be sure to ask questions when I'm in a mellow mood...

There are bulk diesel tanks available 2000 l, 5000 l and bigger.

Your bulk diesel supplier would know the rules for your country and area, contact them.

The local fire department may have some rules as well.

Diesel Fuel is not a classified fuel. Your answer will lie with the local firemarshall, EPA, or the authority having jurisdiction.

In the US diesel is not classified as an explosive, it is classified under State and local laws, US DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations as an combustible liquid. On our sites as long it has we have all of our licenses for flammable/combustible liquids for the tank containing the diesel we can have up to 12,000 gallons in an AST or UST.

I would check with you local, state/providence, and India's government to see how they would determine it.

Pl read Petroleum Storage Act. As per the same as per my memory you can store about 990 lit without license. Bare act books are available at low cost
