I agree, it must be because they have better hockey sticks.

That the only reason they won.

Go CAPS!!!

But our global warming climatologists can make a "Hockey Stick" out of anything!

Give them a straight line and a little leeway in either direction with access to a good graph zooming viewfinder and they will give you a Hockey stick!

so I don't know if this is the right forum or not but here goes...

when I was a kid, a good hockey stick was 5$.. hardwood.. all good

rarely broke.

when I was a teenager, a good hockey stick was 20$ and had some fiberglass

rarely broke.. most got broke on the road, not the rink.

I stopped playing in 1986... and havent paid much attention to prices.. but went to get my new skates sharpened last week, and nearly pooped when I saw prices of 100$ to 250$... and I watch the olympics and sticks are breaking all over the place.. and I don't think heavier hockey sticks slow the play that much.. and the old timers had lots of getupandgo... so what really is the deal.

I good old wooden stick should still cost just 20$.. you could get 25 of them from a sheet of 3/4" plywood... Why would they be that expensive, and why aren't there manufacturers providing affordable alterntives??

Chris

Chris old chap......point is that the game that was just played belongs amongst notable legends the closest description that I can come up with is the Gunfight at the OK Corral.........

But you are definately right about the hardwood hockey sticks losing their strength characteristics. Large regions of Canada have seen warming temperatures over the past 30-40 years. Whether attributable to global warming or the Pacific Decadal Oscillation is up for scrutiny (The evidence of which can be seen in the growth rings).

Northern hardwoods have tighter annual rings due to shorter growing seasons. The best hardwoods come from lower light levels, dense forest growths and the north side of the hill. This will produce a more straight and tighter grain pattern which is stronger than a fast growing southern hardwood with more lower limbs.

In the last 30 years I have seen lumber quality decreases as the prime old growth lumber has been harvested and the newer growth trees are cultivated for more rapid growth.

So, yes Canadian hardwoods should be better for wooden hockey sticks.

good for you.....it must be the hockey sticks. Way Back in 1980, the Russians said they had a shortage of sticks and didn't want to break them. Thats why we won.
