The internet is just a connection network, but, I presume you mean the information stored on the internet, that is stored on millions of hard drives in large computers scattered far and wide...
Either that or all the information is stored in a black hole local to our solar system posing as a planet, just waiting until we are all connected before swooping in to gobble us all up....

C'mon John, not everyone learns the same things or at the same pace as you do. Our un-named guest is probably a kid or some guy who's using the internet for the first time (yes, there are some people out there who've never tried). For someone who's new, the internet may seem like one big place with all kinds of information, like a supersized library.
