For each piece of plate that makes up the tank, W = lwtρ, where the variables mean weight, length, width, thickness, and density; all in compatible units. Then add up all the individual weights: Σ_pieces lwtρ.

Thank you for your precious advice but do u mind to make it more clear by substitute with numbers accordingly in the equation .When i look into your equation,height(1.29m) is excluded !Doesn't required to add?

If a piece of plate is vertical, the height will be the same as either the length or width. If a plate is rolled into a cylinder, the circumference will the same as the length or width. No new terms need to be added to the formula; it is quite complete and general for plate shapes.

Instead of having to think about every detail you can calculate the volume as outside - inside = lo x wo x ho - li x wi hi. The 3 outside dimensions can be measured easily.

and then multiply by the density.

Li (lengthy inside) can be taken as lo (length outside) - 2 x thickness of plate.

You need to find the amount of the material use to fabricate the tank(let say it is steel plate)

formular for calculate weight of standard steel are as following:

Square Plate=W(cm)*L(cm)*T(mm)*0.000785Kg

Round Plate =R(cm)*R(cm)*T(mm)*0.00247Kg

Case 1. Square tank

Weight are the total of 4 ea. of side plate plus 2 ea. of end plate

4*(120*600*6*0.000785)+2*(120*120*6*0.000785)

Case 2. Round tank

Weight are totle of 1 ea. circular square plus 2 ea. of round end plate

1*{(2*22/7*60)*600*6*0.000785}+2*(60*60*6*0.00247)

Note: This is the weight of pure tank not include welding weight or other accessories

How did you get 0.000785kg? I believe for example if the tank is open at top side facing upward,the equation becomes from

4*(120*600*6*0.000785)+2*(120*120*6*0.000785)

to

3*(120*600*6*0.000785)+2*(120*120*6*0.000785)

You are right if the tank are open on top,but I think tank should have all side.

The constant nunber I acquire from the steel industry weight calculation handbook which there are difference no. on difference shape of steel.

Many of you forgot to take into account the plate thickness of 6mm in your calculations. I'm assuming that there is only a bottom plate and the top is open.

Side Plates Vol. = 2* [6,000mm * (1,200mm - 6mm)] * 6mm = 85,968,000 mm^3

End PLates Vol. = 2 * [(1,200mm - 6 mm - 6mm) * (1,200mm - 6mm)] * 6mm

= 17,021,664 mm^3

Bottom Plate Vol. = 6,000mm * 1,200mm * 6mm = 43,200,000 mm^3

Sum Vol, of PL. = 146,189,664 mm^3 = 0.1461897m^3

Unit Weight of Rolled Steel = 7,929.2 kg/m^3

Therefore, the weight of the tank = 1,159.167 kg <<<ANS.>>>

Note: do to time constraints that I have presently, I have not had the chance check my own work,,,,someone please check it for accuracy!

I remember that 1 foot square of steel 1 inch thick weighs 40lbf, but I am old fashioned.

or sum of surface area of each side of tank X plate thickness X density of mild steel
