Advice Regarding Car Engine Oil

05/12/2010 5:34 AM

Could you please help and advice me to choosing the better and the good car engine oil. Frankly I don't understand dose there any effect if I replace by another oil type for my car engine. Normally I send my car to the agency to replace the oil after complete 5000km/h is this right or I can use the oil more than this range. This service really expansive I pay for this service around 11US $ and the type which agency used to input is shell 10W30 is this oil fully synthetic or mineral oil consider. I plan to replace my car oil engine by mobile1 because this oil is fully synthetic type and give more driving millage and more performance. My car is dodge charger 2007 does it affect to my car engine pistons or bearings or it doesn't matter to install any oil type. Please advice my what I shall do.

Is the vehicle still under manufacturer's warranty?

What does the vehicle user manual have to say on the topic?

"This service really expansive..."

You think that is expensive, what do you think a new engine costs?

Seriously, like the first post stated, check the manufacture recommendations for oil type and service interval and follow them.

If you want to save a little money, replace the oil and its filter yourself. It's not hard.

I agree! Just check the oil type with the servicing agent if in doubt. If you are from Oman, I suspect that extreme temperatures may be an issue, and then using the correct oil type is very important. Locally, they also advise more frequent oil changes if you drive in dusty conditions often, or if the engines are highly stressed (speed, towing). (Strangely, here in South Africa most petrol (gasoline) engines only have oil changes every 20000km, but that is a debate for a different thread!)

Am sorry gents I did a mistake the oil service prices is 77 US $ per 5000km/h not 11US $ and I normally crossing these KM per month. For the warranty yes still the car under warranty. I really lost the manual for my car but agency normally use CJK(10w30) oil type I don't know it is a synthetic or mineral oil.

If the vehicle is still under manufacturer's warranty, then doing a maintenance operation outside the terms of the warranty may obviate it, which may be a hazard given the high monthly distance travelled.

A replacement manual should be available from the dealer that supplied the vehicle.

First it is $11.00 change to $77.00...

Now you are going to apology for 5000km/h and say sorry, it is really 500km/h...

btw: 5000km/month, Do they use Dodge Chargers as taxies in Oman?

just joking...

Wangito.

If I had a car that did 5000km/h, I wouldn't care how much it cost to change the oil.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=dodge+charger+2007 regarding the type of oil i would recommend synthetic, although it doesn't matter which type you use, the important part is 10w30 the oil thickness

Vehicle maintenence recommendations from the manufacturer are minimums. They are not looking to make the vehicle last as long as possible, they want to sell you another one as soon as you pay off this one, so they are looking to get a "reasonable" life out of it. Your definition of reasonable and theirs are probably two different things. If you can afford a car that can do 500km/Hr (310 MPH!) then you should have no problem coughing up the price of a good oil change. I'd be willing to bet the manufacturer specifies synthetics only for this vehicle. There is a reason why synthetics are specified for such service. They have a higher temperature breakdown threshhold and can hold more acidic combustion byproducts in suspension before becoming acidic themselves or allowing the combustion byproducts to settle out and form sludge.

If you truly are driving the vehicle that fast, especially in the heat and dust of Oman, then you can expect to have to replace the oil FAR more often than the manufacturer recommends, probably every two to four weeks.

Abuse of such a vehicle like this is frankly an affront to the vehicle gods.

Thank you all gents for you illustration and a device but really what I car, that's due of the weather in Oman is hot and dusty this is could affect the engine performance if the oil been used is a mineral oil this type of oil not that much can give care and protection for the engine pistons compare to full synthetic oil which have a lot of important additives for car engine and good viscosity which is resist the high temperatures. As we know high temperature means low viscosity means low protection to your car engine means catastrophic and destruction. That's why I need to verify. The agency will not till the customer all the thing of the oil classification. Furthermore I was looking about this oil type form internet but I couldn't found (CJ Type). Finally thank you for your cooperation and support.

I would recommend only full synthetic oil, in my experience it does not really matter who makes it, just go for the good price. Make sure that your car engine manufacturers oil standards are either met or exceeded.

If the car is still under warranty, you may be causing a problem that you don't need...

Remember the old German saying:-
