Leslie E. Robertson Associates (LERA)

07/02/2010 1:32 PM

Hello all,

I have an interview lined up with this firm for an entry level structural engineering position. From what I hear they are working on some of the tallest super skyscrapers being built today. Other than that though I don't have much info about the firm. Does anyone know anything about comp, lifestyle, travel requirements, advancement etc?

I cannot quite figure this out. Would you help me?

Are you getting a stipend from every internet hit you can generates? I can think of no other reason for this question.

Judging by your question, I don't think you have a chance of getting that job. Maybe LERA is on this web site.

Clever of the OP to post anonymously; that way LERA will never know that he/she is asking random outsiders what he/she should be covering in the upcoming interview.

I would ask the custodian responsible for the first floor.

Good luck to you.

Best is be yourself. Would you be comfortable learning some jargon here which you cannot explain if asked? You are starting your career, you will learn on the job and outside too if you want to. Why start out trying to live a lie for the rest of your working life?

Did you try to see if they have a Website? Usually if you go under the careers section they usually talk about this. How did you get an interview? Was this through a head hunter. Even if you found them through Monster, there is usually a link to their website.

I agree with the previous responses. You seem ill prepared to enter into a career of any type of design if you can't do the preliminary research on a project, such as becoming employed.

I'd worry less about what the company can do for you "comp, lifestyle, travel requirements, advancement" and more about what you may be able to do for them, if anything.

Do you brag when you´re nervous?. Just take it easy. Soon you´ll find that knowing about lifestyle, compensations, etc. related to your employer doesn´t make YOU better fit for the job.

There has been some good advice and bad advice (mine included) given here. Since this is an entry level position, I wouldn't say too much in the interview. The resume' got you this far to the interview so he probably has most of the information the interviewer needs to determine your suitability for the job. I would answer honestly all questions and not volunteer any information that is not connected with the job. Don't bring up salary, benefits, etc. Try to convey your desire to grow and contribute to the company. Don't brag. Salary will be determined at the end of the interview. Stress education as this is probably the only asset you have. Follow all the rules of a potential employee; grooming, clean, properly dressed, promptness, etc. If you smoke, DON'T. Don't chew gum. You will be nervous and the interviewer will expect you to be, but he won't hold it against you. Just try to be yourself and things will go well. Good luck.
