We Want to make a 600 litre Capacity Vertical Tank in S.S. how Should I Calculat the Dimension Of the Tank To Exactly Fill 600 Litre water in the tank. is there any formula to decide the length,width,& Hight.

Pick a diameter. Calculate height that satisfies the equation: V = (diameter / 2)2 X pi X height.

If it's going to be rectangular, then the formula is V = W X L X H. Pick two dimenions; calculate the third.

If you needed help with that, then the thickness of the metal is going to give you a fit!

I'm worried by that word 'exactly', it's a nonsense in an aplication like this. Thermal expansion will preclude 'exactly'.
'Bang on and a bit over' is probably a more realistic tollerance

V = lwh. If you want 600 litres, just pick any three numbers that multiply to that. Examples: 1000 x 1000 x 600 mm, 500 x 500 x 2400 mm, 1000 x 500 x 1200 mm. Don't bother with cylindrical tanks; they are too complicated.

The S.S. is irrelevant; it could be aluminum, plastic, copper, you name it.

The previous 3 posters have it covered, but I can't help feeling you must have meant something else. If, for example, you want a tank with the minimum amount of material or the minimum length of welding, then you must derive an expression from the formulae given above for the parameter you are interested in and find its 2nd differential. This will give you a maximum and minimum figure.

Hope this helps.

In that case, the diameter of a sphere is . . . aw -- look it up on Google or something like that.

Good point, forgot about a spherical tank - there's only one size for that. I just thought there must be more to it - how would someone trained as a Mechanical Draughtsman not know how to calculate the volume of a box?

Does anyone teach secondary school mathematics any more?

Ah - that would explain it. Thanks.

banu...

What type of lower head design are you proposing ?

Is this a flat head, ellipsoidal, torospherical or what ?

You have omitted this tiny detail....
