Electronic Components

08/01/2010 5:34 PM

I can only think of these electronic components.

Conductor.

Resistor.

Condenser.

Inductor.

P.N. Junction.

Vacuum Tube.

Resonator.

Magnet. ( Maybe not electronic but is needed sometimes.another topic maybe !)

Is there any more components than this ?

No it will not help.

They only have what I mentioned.

You missed the point of the question I think.

You have,

Resistors

Capacitors

Bipolar transistors

FET's

SCR's

Triacs

Diacs

Diodes

Gates

Multiplexers

Op Amps

Comparators

Microprocessors

Crystals

Resonators

Speakers

Hex Inverters

Triodes

Pentodes

Regulators

Relays

That list should get you started, failing that there are any number of "Online" component catalogues produced by a whole heap of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers which will provide you with lots more fodder for your homework.

Re: Electronic components.

08/02/2010 7:26 PM

Very often electronic components are mechanically stabilized, improved in insulation properties and protected from environmental influence by being enclosed in synthetic resin

Components may be passive or active:

[edit] Terminals and connectors

Devices to make electrical connection

[edit] Cords

Cables with connectors or terminals at their ends

[edit] Switches

Components that may be made to either conduct (closed) or not (open)

[edit] Resistors

Components used to resist current.

  1. See the Transducer section below for resistors used to sense environmental conditions (Thermistor, Photo resistor, RTD...)
  2. See the Protection section below for resistors used for current or voltage limiting (MOV, Inrush Limiters...)

[edit] Protection devices

Passive components that protect circuits from excessive currents or voltages

  1. While these components technically belong to the Wire, Resistor and Vacuum classes, they are grouped here based on their use.
  2. Active components that perform a protection function are in the Semiconductor class, below.

[edit] Capacitors

Components that store electrical charge in an electrical field. Capacitors are used for filtration in the electronic circuits. Capacitors in general pass changing (e.g. AC) and block unchanging (e.g. DC) voltage levels.

[edit] Magnetic (inductive) devices

Electrical components that use magnetism

[edit] Networks

Components that use more than one type of passive component

[edit] Piezoelectric devices, crystals, resonators

Passive components that use piezoelectric effect

  • Components that use the effect to generate or filter high frequencies
    • Crystal - Is a ceramic crystal used to generate precise frequencies (See the Modules class below for complete oscillators)
    • Ceramic resonator - Is a ceramic crystal used to generate semi-precise frequencies
    • Ceramic filter - Is a ceramic crystal used to filter a band of frequencies such as in radio receivers
    • Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters
  • Components that use the effect as mechanical Transducers.

[edit] Power sources

Sources of electrical power

[edit] Transducers, sensors, detectors

  1. Transducers generate physical effects when driven by an electrical signal, or vice-versa.
  2. Sensors (detectors) are transducers that react to environmental conditions by changing their electrical properties or generating an electrical signal.
  3. The Transducers listed here are single electronic components (as opposed to complete assemblies), and are passive (see Semiconductors and Tubes for active ones). Only the most common ones are listed here.

[edit] Solid State components, Semiconductors

Electronic control components with no moving parts. Active components

[edit] Diodes

A device which conducts electricity in only one direction.

[edit] Transistors

[edit] Integrated circuits

[edit] Hybrid Circuits

[edit] Display technologies

Current:

Obsolete:

[edit] Thermionic Valve, Vacuum Tube

Active devices that operate in vacuum

Microwave

Optical

[edit] Discharge devices

Obsolete:

[edit] Assemblies, modules

Multiple electronic components assembled in a device that is in itself used as a component

No actually a crystal appears to be a resonator so you just mentioned what I mentioned.

You can not name a new component as of yet.

I did my homework and I learn about P.N Junctions ; they are how transistors work.

All you supply is a list of semi-conductor variants....A list of P.N Junction types.

Does you catalogue not sell conductors....that is an important component.

Maybe you should go back to your homework or start it maybe...I do not know your situation.

You mean electrons can "flow" ?

electrons apparently revolve around the nucleus of the atom so it is not so surprising that some materials exchange electrons especially in the outer orbits.

Can you say what you mean rather than copy & paste ? I have seen diagrammatically representations of atoms before and the one you supplied is actually very poor quality.

This is off Topic also.

Re: Electronic components.

Do not think so !!!!

All except crystals have been mentioned....but might be included in the resonator section.....Do please check your catalogues.

It seems strange that people can read a catalogue but not a question.

A P.N. Junction covers most mentioned.

Do you know what a P.N Junction is it is the base of all transistors.

So maybe when you look at your catalogue you can read the index and see the heading "semi-conductors" and that will give you a clue as to reading the question properly instead of trying to be clever.

First sensible answer so far but the component is still under development.

But your answer told me I have forgotten one component.

The Battery....and all the clever clogs forgot this also even though they were reading their catalogues.

The memristor is not really available and at the moment but very good reply.

Re: Electronic components.

You won't run much farther with your P-N junction as a diode.

Probably no one understands your English here well enough.

What has a magnet in common with electronic components?

And a crystal with a resonator without circuit?

You should use a switch once in a while too.

You forgot your solder or do you ask for "conductor on a roll that melts on your soldering iron, when you heat it up first?

In all the years, my friend, electronics has been an ever developing science, that uses a broader vocabulary than the " things" you name them.

Even the older engineers, I am sure now, don't take your O.P. not serious.

Take care and study well. D.

As regards the English...you might be right.

What has a magnet in common with electronic components?

It is used in windings and hall effect devices , microphones and pickups etc.

I can not believe I missed out batteries but as far as PN Junctions is concerned all semi-conductors work on this principle do they not ?

A crystal I thought I forgot about but maybe it is not an electronic component like a magnet.

A switch is a conductor which all the so called "gurus" forgot about even with the copy and paste internet stuff.

Solder ( I like the humor.) yes conductor on a reel catalogue number #10556778

but saying that what is a fuse ? just a conductor / resistor combination.

I would have thought engineers would have had more intelligence than most of the replies have suggested.

I thank you for your intelligent response...you must be a proper engineer.

What do you think about the "memristor" mentioned ?..it seems like some sort of condenser / battery to me...I look forward to seeing the .pdf data sheet.

Thanks.

Regards.

Philip.

Re: Electronic components.

Semiconductors - junctions? - not all the time.

Following Lilienfeld's idea, Colinge and his team have built a transistor with one type of doping only and thus no junctions. The new device is a one-micron-long nanorod of heavily doped silicon, with the gate crossing over its middle section. An electric field from the gate turns the transistor off by depleting that middle section of its electrons, preventing the flow of current through the rod.

Nothing is more dangerous than generalizing terms in electronics. The day you chose for a career in electronics, don't forget that it means studying it for the rest of your life or you lose it. There are many components, not only electronic types, in the make and more to come. I have no experience with the memristor. Take care. How many engineers can 1 person be?

A meter is an electronic component it is a winding through which electrons flow.

No am not frustrated about the other forum.

I was just pointing out that a rectifier and an ammeter connected as described would not allow the batteries to become correctly charged and therefor a bad circuit.

No, I think everyone has woken up to your "question", I like others will now totally ignore you and any further "threads" you may post.

I, like 99.985% of regular contributors, are more than happy to give at least a guiding hand to people in genuine need of enlightenment.

However in this case we don't need any more "singing lessons".

Is it only copy and paste or can you think for yourself ?

All of these have been mentioned in the question.

Re: Electronic Components

Is there any more components than this

so are you asking are there any more electronic components other than the ones you have listed ?

ie

Conductor.

Resistor.

Condenser.

Inductor.

P.N. Junction.

Vacuum Tube.

Resonator.

Magnet. ( Maybe not electronic but is needed sometimes.another topic maybe !)

why do you want to know ?

what about pnp junction ?

Re: Electronic Components

I am just wondering about new technology is the short answer.

I missed out Pelter Heat Effect devices.

Perhaps I should have said semiconductors rather than PN Junction.

A PNP Junction therefore comes under the catergory of PN junctions.

Most reponces have just shown me that most people who reply can not understand a question and just want to prove they are clever...which sadly they are not.

I have some very interesting responces but they seem to be unavailable components in development stage but something to look at. These people understood the question and are clever and also interesting.

The other people seem to think a "new component" only comes from an on line catalogue and they only have the intelligence to copy and paste a link and in my view they are not qualified as engineers as there is many words that you can make a joke off....i.e. At a place I worked at the normal joke was to send the new young employees to the stores for a "Long Weight" and they always were gone for a long time.

Not quiet the same but I am sure you get the idea.

These dumbs just pick up on the small mistakes in wording and try to be clever with this instead of answering the question.

Regards Philip.

Perhaps you should cut down on the wine as you seem to copying and pasting random images and messages of perhaps your favorite beverage.

Re: Electronic Components

Any Use Phillip?

What is a memristor? Memristors are basically a fourth class of electrical circuit, joining the resistor, the capacitor, and the inductor, that exhibit their unique properties primarily at the nanoscale. Theoretically, Memristors, a concatenation of "memory resistors", are a type of passive circuit elements that maintain a relationship between the time integrals of current and voltage across a two terminal element. Thus, a memristors resistance varies according to a devices memristance function, allowing, via tiny read charges, access to a "history" of applied voltage. The material implementation of memristive effects can be determined in part by the presence of hysteresis (an accelerating rate of change as an object moves from one state to another) which, like many other non-linear "anomalies" in contemporary circuit theory, turns out to be less an anomaly than a fundamental property of passive circuitry.

Until recently, when HP Labs under Stanley Williams developed the first stable prototype, memristance as a property of a known material was nearly nonexistant. The memristance effect at non-nanoscale distances is dwarfed by other electronic and field effects, until scales and materials that are nanometers in size are utilized. At the nanoscale, such properties have even been observed in action prior to the HP Lab prototypes.

But beyond the physics of electrical engineering, they are a reconceptualizing of passive electronic circuit theory first proposed in 1971 by the nonlinear circuit theorist Leon Chua. What Leon Chua, a UC Berkeley Professor, contended in his 1971 paper Transactions on Circuit Theory, is that the fundamental relationship in passive circuitry was not between voltage and charge as assumed, but between changes-in-voltage, or flux, and charge. Chua has stated: "The situation is analogous to what is called "Aristotle's Law of Motion, which was wrong, because he said that force must be proportional to velocity. That misled people for 2000 years until Newton came along and pointed out that Aristotle was using the wrong variables. Newton said that force is proportional to acceleration–the change in velocity. This is exactly the situation with electronic circuit theory today. All electronic textbooks have been teaching using the wrong variables–voltage and charge–explaining away inaccuracies as anomalies. What they should have been teaching is the relationship between changes in voltage, or flux, and charge."

As memristors develop, its going to come down to, in part, who can come up with the best material implementation. Currently IBM, Hewlett Packard, HRL, Samsung and many other research labs seem to be hovering around the titanium dioxide memristor, but there are quite a few other types of memristors with vectors of inquiry.

Re: Electronic Components

The best reply so far.

It by your description appear not to be a new component but a new collection of components with unusual characteristics....a new technology certainly....I never hear of them before this post.

Do you know what the reason is for this component existing and what other uses it could be used for and most importantly what is the specifications of the available products ?

Great help.

Thanks.
