Capsule Pipelines

03/04/2007 11:15 PM

If an engineer tells you it takes 1500 lines of code to design a capsule pipeline system filling out a 3 page single sided questionare what kind of code is he using?

Simply put a capsule pipeline system is a bank tellers pnuematic tube on steriods that usaes air pressure of from one to five psi to move capsules/capsule trains 25 miles per hour or greater from A to b and back just so you know.

What do you mean about taking XXXXX lines of code to design a pipe system? Filling a questionaire with operational parameters make more sense...

But, if you already have the answer for your problem, what are you worried about?

By the way, what are you planning to transport?

All I am saying is :what is the code he is using?, he would not tell me. Is it cobol, Fortran, Basica, etc. or is their a code for building pipelines driven by air including boyles law and others relating to gasses.

My friend, let's start from the beginning.

Cobol, fortran, BASIC, among others, are programming languages, ok? A programming language is used to build computer applications, right? Then, computer applications are used to do a lot of things, including softwares for pipe design. A computer programming language for itself is not used to design a pipe. It would be a waste of work and time, because there are thousands of software that can be used. Is he going to make a software for pipe design? Good, excellent project, lots of fun, but, in this case, it really doesn't matter which language he will use, what matters is the specs, and if the software does what it is intended to do.

A code for building pipe lines, for instance, is not a programming language. It's a compendium of knowledge and practices to carry a project, some recommendations, and some rules that must be followed by hard to assure safety and long term durability. ASME, ANSI, ISO, are good examples. And they will have to be taken as reference if the hipotesys of building a software is valid.

I still do not understand your question, because it does not make any sense. Please, review it with these considerations, and come up with something intelligible.

How does nonsense like this even get posted? What is the point of posting something that can't be answered? If a minor works in a coal mine, what brand of shoe laces does he wear when he works out?

The shoe laces responce is pretty succinct. You have asked a question that is too vague to be able to answer. I have several questions of my own but even if you answer them I probably still will not be able to answer yours.

First, I don't understand what is meant by 1500 lines of code in conjunction with the 3 page single sided questionairre. What is the questionairre? Did you see the 3 pages? If you didn't, then I'll ask some questions similar to yours. How large is the font and what language are the questions written in?

What sort of information is requested by the questionairre? What industry is the application designed for? What is the platform performing the control? What is the size of the transport tube? What is being transported or what load is being transported? How far is it traveling? How many paths can it take? What ancillary functions are required? (i.e., call button, uni-directional or bi-directional transport, diagnostics, alarming, accumulation of data for reporting, etc.)

And, finally, why do you think he would not tell you what lanquage (code) the program was written in? Was he going to have to kill you if he told you?

I know what code he (or she) used, but such information is not for public distribution, nor would it help you one bit to know it.
